The Bridge sensor box is a wireless add-on to any smartphone. It’s a collection of sensors that gathers sensory data and sends it in real time to your smartphone and other smart objects around you. Bridge is a platform. It allows anyone to easily add sensory technology to their products without any friction to their user-base. Carrying a bridge allows the technology around you to actually understand what you're experiencing and use that information to create an incredible user experience. It's the swiss army knife of sensor boxes and gives other apps & hardware access to the suite of sensors running within it.

System Overview The Bridge connects to smartphones using bluetooth low energy, and talks to the cloud & other hardware through wifi. Through the Bridge API, developers can program apps that tap into the real time information being collected by the bridge.

Bridge Connect The bridge developer API is designed to do two main things: Allow developers (app & hardware) to connect & use the real time sensory information being collected by the bridge. Allow developers (app & hardware) to access the anonymized Bridge Cloud to facilitate research & other interesting inventions.

App The notification center is the ‘bridge’ between your online and offline worlds. The Bridge app will notify you via push notification when a 3rd party object w/ bluetooth or wifi wants to connect and access certain types of sensory data. The Bridge App gives users access to a dashboard of their sensory information, a notification center, and privacy controllers to turn off data collection for any sensor.

Bridge Cloud The Bridge collects ambient data, anonymizes it, and sends it to the cloud. It does this across all Bridges and in real-time begins to form an idea of what our world is really like. Using this information we can create algorithms that pull out interesting insights about our global society, and then archive that data to see how certain events change our course. Does a shift in temperature have any economic impact? Is there any significance to the average pulse rate of people in warm cities vs cool cities?

Smart Hardware With Bridge, any piece of 3rd party hardware can add a simple $10 wifi sensor, write a few lines of code, and tap into the data the Bridge is collecting. ‘Smart Objects’ will exist in the future - but it doesn’t make sense for each 3rd party hardware company to include the same set of sensors to add a few niche features - it’s not cost effective, and will never be adopted on a mass scale. A single, omnipresent sensory solution is needed. Bridge makes ‘smart hardware’ a household technology much faster.

If Bridge Existed... Lockitron 3D Printed Version (free) With Bridge, Lockitron would have access to additional sensors: motion, fingerprint, infrared, and even an alcohol sensor. Adding each of these would be too expensive and too niche of a feature to implement in-house. To add this functionality using Bridge Connect it’s just a few lines of code. The beauty of Bridge is that it pushes hardware intensive work to the software side which for most people is much easier, faster & cheaper to work in. Anyone who can program an iOS app can also build smart hardware. Creating products like Lockitron would be significantly easier with Bridge. Traditionally you would spend a majority of your time deciding which sensors to use, how to get them to work, how to power them, etc. Thats tough for people who doesn’t fully understand the hardware world. With Bridge, you don’t need to worry about complicated sensors, so you can spend your time programming really great features.

Novel Innovations with Minimal Cost & Effort Smart Things Health Apps Voice control your TV. Use motion & tilt sensors as a 3d controller. Use infrared sensors to measure room size & temperature to generate custom levels. Use the pulse sensor to send real time data to your doctor for quick diagnoses. Use Infrared to calculate your body temperature. Use motion & tilt to capture & model range of motion. Use alcohol sensor to manage intake. Use the Fingerprint scanner to get rid of web logins. Use the alcohol sensor to disable car & call cab for teens. Use infrared sensors to detect hand movements & control interfaces. Monitor water, electricity & gas usage. Lights auto turn off when you leave a room. Air conditioner turns off when you leave house & turns back on before you arrive. Fingerprint scanner to unlock doors. Voice control appliances like the microwave, stove, lights, and AC. Entertainment Security Energy Conservation Lock / Unlock house doors & windows remotely. Tag objects to remember their location (kids, dog, etc.). Monitor gas levels.
