Ben Aderholt

Ben Aderholt is a Houston-based attorney and legal scholar whose career spans more than 50 years of practice and teaching. He built a strong reputation in construction law, business law, and bankruptcy, representing clients in complex litigation and sophisticated commercial matters. His work frequently involved corporate disputes and cross-border transactions, requiring a detailed legal strategy. He now teaches Construction Law at South Texas College of Law, offering students insight grounded in decades of professional experience.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from The University of Texas, where he developed a disciplined foundation in legal analysis and advocacy. Seeking an international dimension to his education, he completed coursework toward an LLM in International Business Transactions at Lazarski University. Through his participation in an inaugural exchange delegation, he gained direct exposure to comparative legal systems and global regulatory environments that shape international commerce.

Aderholt began his legal career at Coats Rose, P.C., in Houston, where he concentrated on bankruptcy, creditor rights, and commercial litigation. His early work addressed financial restructuring, contract disputes, and corporate conflicts that demanded careful preparation and strategic judgment. In 2002, he joined Looper Reed and McGraw, P.C., and served for more than 24 years. During that period, he managed construction disputes, negotiated agreements, and advised businesses on governance and international transactions.

Construction law became a defining focus of his practice. He counseled contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and lenders on contract drafting, regulatory compliance, and allocation of project risk. His matters involved delays, cost overruns, payment disputes, and performance issues resolved through negotiation, arbitration, or trial. By aligning legal solutions with operational goals, he safeguarded client interests while supporting project continuity and financial stability.

After retiring from active practice, Ben Aderholt devoted himself fully to teaching. For thirteen years, he has guided students through Construction Law using case-based instruction and practical analysis. His courses integrate principles from business law and bankruptcy to provide a broad understanding of project risk and financial structure. His career reflects a consistent commitment to ethical standards, professional mentorship, and meaningful contributions to the legal community.
