In 2006, Carol McCormack established Carol Butler and Associates in Portland. The consulting practice was created to provide strategic guidance to Democratic candidates, ballot-measure campaigns, and progressive organizations. As principal, she oversees projects involving campaign messaging, financial planning, opposition research, and overall campaign execution. The firm has served a variety of clients involved in elections and public initiatives across the country. McCormack became particularly active in Oregon ballot-measure politics after creating her firm. One of her best-known projects was managing the successful campaign to defeat Oregon’s Measure 43 in 2006. The effort required statewide coalition-building, public communication, and coordination among organizations focused on privacy and reproductive rights. In 2012, she served as a senior strategist for Suzanne Bonamici during her special election victory and later campaigns. She was also involved in efforts to oppose privatization proposals affecting the Portland Water Bureau in 2014. Carol Butler McCormack later joined Nicholas Kristof’s 2021 campaign for governor of Oregon as a senior consultant and campaign leader. The campaign attracted widespread attention and required extensive statewide planning. Her role included campaign coordination, strategic decision-making, and operational leadership throughout the race. Outside of formal campaign work, Carol has participated in civic and political activities through fundraising events and community engagement. Alongside her partner, Win McCormack, she has hosted gatherings featuring Democratic leaders such as Joe Biden, Jill Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi. These events have taken place in Portland and nearby communities, including Lake Oswego and Dunthorpe.
