    <description>Dr. Salvatore Palumbo, MD, FACS, FAANS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and spine specialist on Long Island. He serves as Chief of the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of Neurotrauma at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip and will mark 25 years at the hospital in 2027. He also serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage. He has spent much of his career treating patients with complex neurological conditions and is recognized for his expertise both locally and nationally.

Dr. Salvatore practices with a patient-first approach, combining advanced surgical techniques with personalized care plans. He carefully evaluates each patient’s condition to determine the most effective and least invasive treatment options. His goal is to relieve pain while restoring function, mobility, and overall quality of life. He has helped thousands of patients with conditions affecting the spine, neck, brain, and peripheral nerves. His work includes intracranial procedures, complex spinal surgeries, and spinal reconstruction for both degenerative and traumatic disorders.

Salvatore Palumbo, MD, is experienced in treating intracranial tumors and other neurological conditions. His surgical procedures range from minimally invasive microdiscectomies to multi-level spinal stabilization operations. He diagnoses and treats conditions such as back and leg pain, arm and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc diseases, spinal stenosis, compression fractures, traumatic brain injuries, spinal and brain tumors, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dr. Salvatore has been recognized as a Top Doctor in America and on Long Island, as well as receiving the Outstanding Physicians Award, while practicing in Pennsylvania. Patients often express appreciation for his care, with some referring to him as a “hero” and others noting his clear communication and thoughtful approach.

He was one of the founding members of Long Island Brain and Spine and the Interventional Pain Management Group, which provides coordinated, multidisciplinary care. He is a Fellow of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the North American Spine Society and New York State and County Medical Societies. He completed his undergraduate degree at Duquesne University, earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, and completed his General Surgery Internship and Neurosurgery Residency at the University of Rochester-Strong Memorial Hospital. He also donates to Catholic Health Long Island and Make-A-Wish. Dr. Salvatore Palumbo continues to focus on patient care and community support.</description>
