Keith Brautigam

Keith Brautigam is an experienced IT and cybersecurity leader specializing in identity and access management, information security, and enterprise technology. His career has progressed from hands-on systems administration to senior leadership positions, including Chief Information Security Officer, Deputy CIO, and Interim Chief Information Officer at Penn State University, where he led major security and technology initiatives.

Keith was born in San Diego, California, before moving to the East Bay Area near San Francisco at age two. His interest in technology began through early Amiga and Atari computers owned by friends' families. What started as an interest in video games soon developed into curiosity about computer performance and optimization. After moving to Iowa City, he studied Communication and Media Studies at the University of Iowa.

Keith began building his professional technology career after initially working as a supervisor at a Borders bookstore in North Carolina. He later returned to Iowa City and accepted an IT Systems Administrator position at a medical research center. There, he managed secure technology supporting clinical and research environments while gaining valuable experience with HIPAA requirements, regulatory compliance, data protection, and specialized lung imaging systems.

Keith transitioned into higher education technology, joining a research administration team focused on modernizing internal processes and moving services online. The position introduced him to Agile SCRUM development practices and emerging web technologies. His growing technical expertise eventually led to a role with the University of Iowa's central IT department, where he joined the Identity and Access Management team and expanded his cybersecurity experience.

Keith Brautigam joined Penn State University in 2014 and advanced through several leadership positions, including Manager, Director, CISO, Deputy CIO, and Interim CIO. As CISO, he directed information security efforts supporting more than 200,000 students, faculty, and staff. He also helped protect technology supporting more than $1 billion in annual research expenditures while developing and executing cybersecurity strategies across the university.

Keith led major modernization and security programs at Penn State, including the Shields Up initiative based on CISA best practices. He helped reorganize the university's 600-person central IT department and led the adoption of a new Multi-Factor Authentication solution that saved approximately $500,000 annually. He also directed the migration of more than 500 applications to Microsoft Entra ID within 12 months.

Keith also oversaw implementation of an enterprise Identity Governance system designed to improve role-based access control and streamline management of approximately 1.2 million user accounts. Throughout his Penn State tenure, he continued strengthening his leadership credentials by earning the Certified Information Systems Security Professional certification, an MBA, and a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership.

Keith Brautigam relocated to the Denver Metro Area in late 2023 and joined Hunter Douglas in March 2024 as Global Cybersecurity Director of Identity and Access Management. He established an IAM program covering strategy, staffing, governance, and technology while supporting compliance across North America and EMEA. Following his work at Hunter Douglas, Keith transitioned to Radiology Partners in 2025, continuing his focus on IAM strategy and cybersecurity leadership.
