Paul Pavliscak

Paul Pavliscak discovered his calling in medicine at an age when most childhood memories had disappeared. At three years old, he accompanied his father to oncology appointments and told his father's physician that he wanted to do the same one day. After losing his father soon afterward, that early statement gained deeper meaning. Growing up with the impact of illness around him, he learned how disease affects entire families and saw how physicians provide stability, reassurance, and compassion during life's most difficult moments.

Paul was raised by a hardworking single mother whose sacrifices created a stable foundation and taught him the value of consistency, discipline, and perseverance. His uncle provided steady financial support throughout his education while serving as a father figure alongside his grandfather. Their guidance shaped his sense of responsibility and reinforced the belief that success should be used to help others. These family influences became central to his character and continue to guide his personal and professional decisions today.

Paul developed many of his strongest qualities through baseball. At eleven years old, coaches suggested he consider another path, but he chose persistence over discouragement. Through lessons, travel teams, and years of dedicated effort supported by his mother, he steadily improved. He later played catcher for the Division III Kalamazoo College Hornets after attending the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. The position demanded leadership, communication, awareness, and resilience, qualities that naturally translated beyond the field.

Paul balanced academic achievement with demanding athletic commitments throughout his education. Graduating Cum Laude from both high school and college, he earned a 3.58 GPA while dedicating extensive hours each week to baseball. His interest in medicine expanded through shadowing experiences in laboratory medicine, family medicine, and pediatric endocrinology. He observed diagnostic processes, patient care, physician responsibility, and the importance of confidentiality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued learning through a structured virtual physician shadowing program.

Paul Pavliscak, Rochester Hills, MI, has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to service. As a FedEx Ground Package Handler, he worked demanding overnight shifts that required endurance, precision, and teamwork. He also worked with fans through Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings fundraising initiatives. More recently, he contributed 246 volunteer hours at Oakland Hope Food Pantry and Thrift Store. Now a medical student, he remains grounded by family, community, and gratitude, carrying forward a promise first made in childhood and honored through years of dedication.
