  3. STEP 1 / THUMBNAIL SKETCH TIPS 4 LOGO DESIGN PHIL

    MACISAAC • Fast, fun, dirty • Literally as small as you can • Quickly sketch icons + write the wordmark in a variety of ways • Notebook. Sticky pad. Napkin. TP. Anywhere. • Use pen, pencil, sharpie… whatever makes you feel free, man. • Experiment • Think on paper thumbnail sketch: DRIBBBLE MEETUP/29/5/2018
  4. STEP 2 / INSPIRATION TIPS 4 LOGO DESIGN PHIL MACISAAC

    Having a rough idea of the direction you’re headed, you can now: • Look at how others have treated similar cases. Design isn’t done in a vacuum. • Search Dribbble ;), Pinterest, Behance, books, flea market, etc. • Just look at stuff for a while... • Take notes • Initiate brain incubator / develop your concept(s) • Keep sketching... inspiration: DRIBBBLE MEETUP/29/5/2018
  5. STEP 3 / SKETCH YOUR CONCEPTS/DRAW TIPS 4 LOGO DESIGN

    PHIL MACISAAC 29/5/2018 Now that you’ve developed your concept(s) a bit: • Move to a higher fidelity of sketching, ie. draw • By “draw” I mean be intentional; use care to ensure the idea is being articulated sufficiently, all the while remaining as simplistic and precise as possible. • Do as many variations as you can • Maybe take a step away for a sec/min/hour... sketch your concepts / draw:

    • Select your top 2-3 sketches • Show them to your client and discuss • AGAIN: don’t be in love with yourself. The ego is that ridiculous voice in your head that gets easily offended… tell it to take the afternoon off. • Once all parties are in accord about the direction of the artwork, go back to your dungeon and begin the conjuring... select (consult w/ client): DRIBBBLE MEETUP/29/5/2018

    MACISAAC • Whip out your weapon of choice, ie. Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, Figma, etc. • Import your selected sketches and begin! • Start simple and consider things like: line weight, visual balance (squinting at the image helps with this), corner styles, contrast, etc. • Utilize a non-destructive workflow. • Keep going til you’re confident • BONUS: TRY A NEW TECHNIQUE. This will get your excitement levels up + learnding is göd. Now: Stop looking at it for a few minutes/hours/days. Go outside. Hug your loved ones. Meditate. Read. Play video games.
