Leveraging Curiosity to Care for An Aging Population · HCII 2024 · Washington, DC Four-Phase Approach to Understanding Driving Research Phase 2 Quant. Research Understood consumer awareness about their current vehicle’s safety features. Phase 3 Prototype Explored how to translate a safety assessment into a digital experience. Phase 4 Evaluate + Refine Evaluated how to attract consumers and change minds and behaviors. Phase 1 Initial Research Outlined potential approaches to conduct driving assessments.

Leveraging Curiosity to Care for An Aging Population · HCII 2024 · Washington, DC Phase 1: Initial Research – Towards a Driving Assessment Research Examine how current technology systems might assess driving: What can be measured: sensory, experiential, and informational. Approach Background research into driving assessment. Outcomes • Foundational principles • Assessment framework • App architecture

Leveraging Curiosity to Care for An Aging Population · HCII 2024 · Washington, DC Phase 2: Quant research confirmed consumers want to learn more about their vehicle. Research Lack of Knowledge
Two-thirds of participants were unaware of most safety features in their vehicles. n= 141. More than 90% of respondents were 55+. Desire to Learn
Participants showed an interest in learning more about these safety features. Open to Recommendations
Participants were open to receiving personalized, proactive recommendations from their vehicles. 56% were willing to take a confidential assessment in order to become a better driver. 91% were open to receiving personalized recommendations of vehicle safety features. 86% would like the vehicle to proactively inform them of safety features. Approach Understand what consumers know about vehicle’s current safety features. Outcomes • What consumers might expect in a safety checkup

Leveraging Curiosity to Care for An Aging Population · HCII 2024 · Washington, DC Phase 3: Early prototypes connected consumer desire to meaningful action. Research Approach Translate a safety assessment into a digital experience. Outcomes • Low- and medium-fidelity prototypes Prototypes were featured three assessments: Wellness Assessment
Quiz-type assessment that looks at drivers’ health and wellness Driving Assessment
Simulate data being transmitted to/ from app/vehicle, and usage of drivers’ patterns over time. Brain Training
Provide brain training games to help individuals maintain and improve their cognitive abilities.
