What is the AGMF? - A theoretical research project focused on developing a theoretical and analytical framework for modelling and comparing digital organizations (DOs), decentralized digital organizations (DDOs), and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) based on their organization design and performance attributes. - The AGMF hoeps to develop metrics, methodologies, and software to make community governance and organizational design more transparent and actionable to stakeholders, and hopefully aid in the health and sustainable of DOs, DDOs and DAOs. 

Problem Statement - Even though blockchain and other Web 3 technologies may provide the promise of decentralization (organizing and technology) and distributed governance, we must actuate such a promise through explicit action by stakeholders rather than believing that blockchain will solve our governance issues by virtue of its existence (i.e., new technology for new technology’s sake will not change our existing paradigms). - Additionally, many current Web 3 applications for organizations and governance are very basic, and try to map complex issues onto simple models that miss too much information to be helpful or cause any revolution in how organizations are developed and managed. - Hopefully, by developing the AGMF, we can inform stakeholders in academia, industry, and citizens in how to design their organizations and measure their performance such that they are actuating the principles and proposed organizational designs that are meant to be decentralized and distributed (and cause a paradigm shift in how we collectively work together) - For a helpful reading on the issues still needing to be tackled, please read DAOs Will Never Govern the World (at This Pace) 

Opportunities - Before blockchain becomes a mainstream technology, especially for enterprises and communities, we can develop models and metrics for digital organizations to help guide them towards becoming more decentralized and distributed and ensuring that we can actuate the promise of blockchain technology and Web 3.0. - The world is moving more digital and digital organizations (or remote-only organizations) are steadfast becoming a common organizing pattern for enterprises and communities (though, this has been the norm for online or internet-based communities), and with such growth there is a need for determining how distributed and decentralized an organization’s design, functioning and performance can be given the digital tools and people at its helm. 

Working Groups - The AGMF has 4 working groups: a. Research: developing and answering research questions and reviewing literature on organization science and its intersections with emerging tech and change-relevant movements b. Analytics: Developing methods for collecting, cleaning, standardizing, assessing and publicizing data on organizations to better understand them (e.g., DeepDAO) c. Certification: Developing a program to train individuals in assessing organizations and certifying organizations based on their organizing attributes (e.g., BCorp Lab and LEED) d. Applied: Developing tools to apply research and analytics to real-world organizations (primarily for self-use) 

Focus Areas - The AGMF has focus areas to aid in modelling and assessing organizations because organizations are multidimensional systems that cannot easily be assessed with one area. - The current focus areas (and there are focus areas within each area) revolve around decentralization and distribution and include: - Governance - Distributed Governance - Data and Algorithmic Governance - Technology Governance - Organizing - Decentralized Organizing - Technology - Core Technology (effect on distribution and decentralization) - Value - Community Interactions - Individual Value - Performance: - Performance in the context of Decentralization and Distribution - Analytics - Sentiment Analysis (of proposals and posts) - Descriptive 

Models - Currently, the model is split into two areas: - Internal: Dealing with the internal stakeholders and processes of an organization (e.g., employees, managers, shareholders) - External: Dealing with the external stakeholders and processes of an organization (e.g., government, customers, competitors) 

Metrics - Tools (the majority of these tools will be for self-use): - Surveys - Wikisurveys - Point-based Tests - Software - Methodologies - Current Tools: - Distributed Governance Assessment Instrument 

Related Projects - CHAOSS Metrics - BCorp Certification - Open Demographics Initiative: An open standard for collecting identity/demographic data in open source communities. - DeepDAO 

Use-cases - Determining how to categorize and analyze a DO, DAO and DDO based on its organizational design. - Preventing decentralization-washing by applying the metrics to an organization at the internal level - Determining how well an organization performs given its decentralized and distributed attributes - Determining how social value is determined in an organization at the communal and individual level 

Future 1. Continue developing the models for the focus areas in the research working group 2. Develop partnerships with organizations to test the metrics. 3. Grow the contributor-base by recruiting academics, industry-members, and citizens 4. Developing more use-cases for the AGMF
