@ikkou from WebXR Japanese community - First Published: 2024-12-04 Revised: 2025-01-04 Expectations for the Immersive Web: Insights from the WebXR Japanese Community The Vibrant XR Community in Japan Japan has a thriving XR community with frequent events. For example: ● This month, weʼre hosting "XR Kaigi," the largest XR-specific conference in Japan. ● On December 21, there will be two VRChat-related events, and Iʼll host the "LODGE XR Talk." Companies and Organizations in XR Japanese companies are equally enthusiastic about XR. ● VRM, a 3D avatar file format from Japan, is based on glTF. Tools like "pixiv/three-vrm" make it easy to use VRM with WebXR. ● Palan Inc. specializes in WebXR solutions, widely adopted across Japan. Individual Developers and Contributions While fewer in number, some individuals are making significant contributions: ● @ninisan_drumath san promotes Babylon.js and the WebXR Device API. ● @wakufactory san developed "SpatialShell," a WebXR playground. Community Highlights ● The "WebXR Advent Calendar 2024" is currently underway. ● We hope to gather more as a community and create greater excitement for WebXR, especially Looking Ahead In 2025, we plan to host the WebXR Developer Conference Tokyo, a developer-focused event in Japan. Iʼm excited to see more collaboration between Unity developers and web front-end engineers with expertise in JavaScript.
