Winners in a Multicore World?
●
Panel 1 - Prof Ian Foster (Univ. Chicago), Paul McKenney
(IBM), Mark Moir (Oracle), Poul-Henning Kamp (Varnish)
●
Which organisations, communities and industries will take advantage faster
from multicore technologies? Would corporations like Intel, IBM, Oracle be
clear winners because they “control the metal”?
●
Would software companies i.e. Microsoft or Google or Facebook or Amazon
be dominants or the world is getting ready to have a different OS for each
application, or not having OS at all?
●
Which is the role of communities (i.e. FLOSS) or entire industries (i.e.
games, oil & gas, finance) driving the progress: will their “learnings” spillover
through “slower” adopters?
●
How disruptive are ARM based technologies and similar ones like Raspberry
Pi, Parallella (Adapteva), etc?
●
What happen in the embedded world? What are Samsung, Qualcomm,
Texas Instruments, Ford, etc doing?
●
Each panellist will do a 4' “mini presentation” and then we will open the
debate to the floor
