Tactic: Goal-Question-Metric (GQM)
• Long established structured technique to achieve goal-
oriented measurements
• Focuses attention on how metrics are used and their
value, helps to prioritise useful metrics and avoid waste
• Goal: statement describing what you want to understand
• Questions: characterise the goal and allow progress
towards it to be judged
• Metrics: clear definitions of the quantifiable
measurements to be made
