How to land a job internationally and triple your income… …I did it and so can you!

Slide 2

Slide 2 text

Myself - Coding since 1999 - Love creating stuff - Love helping people - Working remotely internationally for +7 years

Slide 3

Slide 3 text

International jobs BEFORE… - very few - lang & cultural barrier - experienced only

Slide 4

Slide 4 text

International jobs NOW… - new normal - low barrier - all levels of experience

Slide 5

Slide 5 text

My history - Loved developing, work for a international consultant - Was speaking English on my work, every day! But was not getting paid well… - Thought it was really unfair we make BRL 5k as devs (1k USD) - While people in the US make $7k USD

Slide 6

Slide 6 text

My history - My family also needed me… A family member was facing a major depression and needed me to be at home *Disclaimer: this person is fully recovered now!

Slide 7

Slide 7 text

My history - So using all the resources I could, after a few months… I got two offers - 6k and 7k!! and that's how I went from making: - 6k BRL (1800 USD) to 7k USD (a 3x JUMP!)

Slide 8

Slide 8 text

My history - If it was not for the downsides of life, I probably would've postponed getting a remote job abroad… - Yet… it was one of the best things that happened to my career!!

Slide 9

Slide 9 text

And if I did it… So can YOU!

Slide 10

Slide 10 text

What do I need, then? - english - communication skills - get "discovered" - introduce and sell yourself… - deliver!

Slide 11

Slide 11 text

What companies need… - Someone RELIABLE – not the "perfect" candidate - References (authority, trust) - Good communication skills (impression) - Remove RISK - delivers, available, trustable, loyal - And remove this problem out of their HANDS (hiring)

Slide 12

Slide 12 text

Discovery / hiring How they can find and reach you? - Linkedin - Website / blog posts / social - Referenced by a friend / customer - You go after them (job posts, etc) Are you working on improving these paths?

Slide 13

Slide 13 text

Reaching out - communication is important - grammar errors are huge red flag - but the worst issue is: not communicating personally, not showing you know who you are applying to!

Slide 14

Slide 14 text

Tell YOUR story (short please!) CONVINCE - when applying, you need to PROVE your are the best option (or at least willing to be…) SHOW - tell the story of your career (short, impact) - and why YOU should be picked

Slide 15

Slide 15 text

What is on their *minds* DESIRE - filling a *development* GAP (but basically make more money) FEAR - who will help me? - are they trustable? - are they going to deliver or disappear when I need? - can I afford? - basically? will they help me or be one more issue to deal?

Slide 16

Slide 16 text

What they expect from you? - trustable - delivers - good references of work (reliable) - skilled - good communicator - problem solver mindset

Slide 17

Slide 17 text

If you can SHOW all that YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO… - score great clients and positions - get a great compensation! - get even more references - grow in your career
