Dance Description
Doudlevska Polka – Double Clap Polka
Trad. Czechoslovakia
This dance is also known as the Star Polka in Germany and was once also a
favourite in the Israeli dance repertoire.
Formation: Circle of partners facing counter-clockwise, (CCW), “men” on the
left of each pair.
Beat Steps
Part A
32
Polka step/skip with partner, CCW
Part B
32
March CCW, men on the inside of the
circle, handle partner’s hand. Pairs
edge in towards the centre of the
circle until the “men” can place their
left hand onto the shoulder of the
man in front.
Part C
32
“Women” turn and polka/skip
clockwise around the outside of the
circle. “Men” face the centre of the
circle and perform the following
clapping pattern:
Clap own hands 3 times, clap
neighbour’s hands 3 times
When the music starts from the
beginning again, “men” turn out to
join the nearest “lady” to start the
dance again.
