Reaching the world with the gospel of Jesus was the motivation for early Adventists in embracing the publishing work. In 1848 Ellen White had a vision that she shared with her husband: lYou must begin to print a little paper and send it out to the people. Let it be small at first; but as the people read, they will send you means with which to print, and it will be a success from the first.

From this small beginning it was shown to me to be like streams of light that went clear round the world.z James White acted on his wife`s words, and now Seventh-day Adventists boast almost 65 publishing houses and approximately 450 periodicals, hundreds of millions of books printed, with over 50,000 literature evangelists, and endless souls owing their salvation to Adventist literature.
