Longtime resident of Northeast
Florida, printmaker Donald Martin is
devoted to the natural world. With his
deft hand and immaculate graphic
design sensibility, Martin creates block
prints that explore various animal and
plant forms found in the local
ecosystem. In his prints, line, texture,
color, and content illustrate his
personal affinity for nature and
present a view that is intimate,
realistic, and close-up. His images are
at once recognizable and abstract,
organic and structured, naturalistic
and graphic.!

More than 2,000 smooth muslin-and-
wax-covered pods comprise a cluster
whose inspiration is nothing less
deadly than the smallpox virus—a
menace that ravaged millions. How
long does it take to create a work of
art? How quickly can an innocent
population be decimated by illness?
Lorrie Fredette has long been inspired
by medical science and microscopic
imagery. Iterations marks her third
unique iteration of The Great Silence
and it will be the most significant
manifestation of it to date.!
