READ THE TEXT AND ANSWER THE QUESTION  The Amur, or Far Eastern Leopard is one of the eight subspecies of leopard. It is only found in the Russian Far East and North East China and there are fewer than 40 individuals left in the wild.  This makes the Amur leopard one of the world’s most endangered big cats and for this reason it is listed as Critically Endangered.  ____________________________  Subspecies – подвид  Critically Endangered – под угрозой исчезновения

 The Amur leopard is adapted to the cool climate by having thick fur which grows up to 7.5 cm long in winter.  Males generally weigh 32-48 kg, but can weigh up to 75 kg. Females are smaller than the males at 25-43 kg.  In the wild, leopards live for 10-15 years.  Amur leopards hunt different animals including deer, badgers and hares.  ______________________  badger - барсук

 Amur leopards live in the forests of Far Eastern Russia, with extreme cold and deep snow in winter, as well as hot summers.  They are found in Southwest Primorye in the Russian Far East, and in North East China.  With a wild population of less than 40 individuals, the Far Eastern leopard is critically endangered and this is mostly as a result of human activities.

PEOPLE HELP FAR EASTERN LEOPARD TO SURVIVE  A 261,000-acre national park in Russia’s Far East was created to protect Amur leopards. It began operating in April 2012.  Establishment of the new park will give the leopard the living space, eight cubs have been born in the short time since the park’s establishment.
