A tradition of collaboration with Japan ...more than 20 years long Giovanni De Lellis Università “Federico II” and INFN Napoli 1

Slide 2 text

The start Collaboration initiated in the early 1990’s in the studies of neutrinos (elementary particle poorly known at that time, still not well know today). At that time, Napoli group leaded by prof. Strolin, Nagoya University group leaded by prof. Niwa The CHORUS experiment at CERN is designed for the study of neutrino “oscillations”. It starts taking data in 1994 Very active collaboration on the development of technologies • Nagoya group was world leader in the technology of nuclear emulsions • Collaboration with Japan to promote this technique also in Italy • Long stays in Japan of young researchers to learn the technology, bring to Italy the know-how for further developments 2
