FIRST SUCCESS In 1991 I led an effort to help Cordis Corporation break down and analyze the process cardiologists went through to “restore blood flow in a blocked artery.” Opportunities were revealed, prioritized and addressed. By mid-1993, Cordis launched 19 new angioplasty balloon products, all of which became number 1 or 2 in the market. Its market share increased from 1 percent to more than 20 percent. This work also led to the development of the stent—the fastest growing device in medical history. ODI has been refined and proven over 26 years.
