Fans’ actions cover a wide range of activities. The common point between these
actions and experiences that has increased as society has undergone digitalization is
the reliance that many IP holders have on other companies’ platforms.
Many of the entertainment companies within Japan offer their content on platforms
owned by other companies, so their customer base is divided and limited. On top of
that, they must pay high handling fees (30-65% of their earnings).
As time goes on, the entertainment industry is reliant on digital platforms. That
reduces the direct contact with fans, so not only does it affect their earnings, but
