ABSTRACT Learning a new script alphabet, such as Manchu, Hangul, Mongolian, Bengali, or Japanese hiragana and katakana, is generally not as difficult as learning new vocabulary. However, certain learning and memory techniques can be employed to learn faster and more efficiently. This research presents a design for a mobile application that uses memory enhancing techniques for quickly learning, and remembering, a new script alphabet.

EASIER HARDER RESULTS In particular, computer vision techniques are used in LEARN for tracing and freely writing script letters. Sound processing techniques are used in LEARN for displaying, recording, and matching pronunciation sound waves. Spaced repetition is used for RECALL. Finally, a type of recommendation system is used in APPLY when transcribing words and sentences, to either recommend more difficult or easier tasks based on previous learner performance. CONCLUSIONS In this study, a mobile application design is proposed to quickly and effectively learn a new script alphabet. Various learning and memory enhancing techniques are applied to enhance both the depth of memorization and recall ability. In this way, a learner should be able to learn a new script alphabet much more quickly and effectively than traditional methods such as handwriting letters on paper.
