The joy of making stupid things

Our world gives us more ways to learn, and more things to learn, than at any other time in the history of humanity. Often for free. There are thousands of tutorials aimed at getting started in everything from coding to cooking, but they can be pretty cut and dry. While it’s true that there are also fun, exciting tutorials to be found, following a set of instructions can get frustrating and be uninspiring.

If you aren’t doing a passion project, it can be too easy to give up at the first bump in the road. So go off piste – think less about what you’re trying to learn and follow the silly ideas that jump into your head. That’s where the real learning happens.

How to Build a Chrome Extension* (*or anything else, for that matter)

Talk given at Codebar London's September monthly event at Unruly.

How do you build a Chrome extension? And what happens when, no matter what you're building, you run into inevitable roadblocks.

This talk will give a high level overview of the steps needed to create any Chrome extension (with the example used in the presentation being a new tab productivity extension like Momentum or Lagom) and then hopefully some inspiration for getting any project done, no matter what it is.
