DATA, OTHERWISE @ VIZCHITRA 2026 A contemporary data visualization exhibition focused on climate and ecological change, especially work connected to India and South Asia. 10 The exhibition will be in a gallery setup at BIC on the conference day (4th July, 2026). And is organised around three interconnected topics: More-than-Human Data Data made with,through, or about non-human worlds: flora, fauna, rivers, soil, weather, where sensing & meaning extend beyond people & instruments. Living with Climate Change Climate as lived experience: heat as exhaustion, rain as anxiety, smoke as grief, where feelings, memory, and the body become part of what data can hold. Adaptation & Resilience Everyday stories of coping & change; how people, communities, & environment adjust, resist, or rebuild. And what counts as "resilience," v/s what stays hidden. Selected applicants will be supported through expert mentorship as their work develops. TOO HOT TO OPEN Uses door forms to visualize India’s rising heat stress, showing which days are safe to step outside & which are not. Drawing on UTCI “feels-like” temperature data across three decades, it turns climate change into a physical experience of restriction, risk, and inequality. FADING OUT Tangible data installation that transforms biodiversity decline into a physical experience of disappearance. Visualized as three illuminated panels spanning past, present, & future, species imagery gradually fades based on IUCN Red List. VANISHING WINGS An immersive textile installation that translates insect decline data into a tactile journey through ecological loss. Visitors walk through layered fabrics whose density, texture, and transparency gradually shift to make biodiversity change physically felt. THE POLLUTION THAT WASN’T Visualizes the air pollution Bangalore avoids because nearly 800,000 people choose the metro over private vehicles each day. Using ridership & emissions data projected on a physical city map, it reveals public transport as a powerful form of shared climate resilience.
