Educational Philosophy
The only science and technology high school affiliated with a national university corporation
Science Tokyo High School cultivates the fundamental academic
skills, practical abilities, international awareness, knowledge, and
courtesy essential for active members of society. It also nurtures
independence and creativity, empowering students to
contribute through comprehensive scientific and technological
perspectives.
Missions
1. Cultivate future talent in science and technology by instilling
a mindset of continuous challenge through exploratory
activities and project studies
2. Develop students’ ability to take on and examine social
challenges logically, and to explore solutions from a
scientific and technological standpoint, nurturing a
commitment to the future of society
3. Enhance global competence through international
exchanges and collaborative research, grounded in
universally shared knowledge of science and technology
4. Promote innovative education through high school-
university collaboration with Science Tokyo
Overview and Features
• Founded in 1886 as Vocational Course of Institute for Apprentice Training in Commerce and
Industry attached to Tokyo Commerce School.
• Department of Science and Technology, focused on specialized education, established with a
total of 15 classes (five per grade)
• Designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) and Super Global High School (SGH) by the
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)
• Enrollment of 600 students (200 per grade), with 49 full-time teachers and 20 part-time teachers
• Students specialize in one of five fields: Applied Chemistry, Information Systems, Mechanical
Systems Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Architectural Design from the
second year (grade 11)
• With inquiry-based learning at the core of the curriculum, all students undertake Project Study in
their final year (grade 12)
• Pioneering innovative learning through strong high school and university collaborative education
with Science Tokyo
• Conducting international collaborative research with partner high schools overseas and
participating in numerous international science and mathematics contests
• Relocation to Science Tokyo Ookayama Campus (Midorigaoka area) scheduled for April 2027
