Challenges we face Demand of data increases more and more and we need it yesterday Legacy reporting needs to be faced out. New technology needs to be embraced Shortage of qualified staff versus availability of business knowledge in the business itself. Can the business do more on their own? Hardware, software and tooling are no longer sufficient to support demand

ALL IS GOOD, BUT COULD BE IMPROVED Identified areas of improvement 02 04 06 We need to help colleagues to become more data literate and provide more in-depth schooling KNOWLEDGE We need to make our processes faster, more efficient and leaner PROCESSES We need to setup simple rules, guidelines and provide help where possible GOVERNANCE & GUIDELINES 01 03 05 We need to provide the proper tooling and automate processes where possible TOOLING & AUTOMATION We need to create better dashboards, faster data flows and better understanding how thinks work PERFORMANCE TUNING We need to scale up, -out and beyond to support the increased demand and possibilities HARDWARE & SETUP LOTS OF THESE IDEAS AND EXECUTION OF THEM CAME FROM OUR OWN REPORTING COLLEAGUES & BUSINESS USERS!

Tooling and automation 02 Help reporters and business analysts to create better dashboards, reports and insights by provide the right tools, automate tedious steps. Remove manual labour such as repetitive checks, setting baselines, deployments and focus on gaining valuable insights, predict the future and prescribe the necessary. HOME

Tooling 02 The right tool is choosing the right software, and stick to it. The rights tools are sometimes as simple as templates and scripts. Governance and guidelines originate from these tools as well. • Qlik Sense • Qlik Sense Document Analyzer Pro • Monitoring apps • Templates • Re-usable scripts • White papers and cheat sheets TECHNICAL TOOL BOX

Automation 02 We have automated tedious manual steps, and provide pre-made sets of data. The power of automation is to control the simple tasks and focus on the more interesting ones. • Deployments via GITLAB • JIRA • Definition of Done and Ready • Create a “QVD-layer” • Data reload triggers from Workflows instead of set times AUTOMATED

Improve the process Remove unnecessary steps from the process, but add better checks GDPR, Architecture, best practices Easier to create and deploy solutions LESS STEPS, MORE CHECKS KEY REPORTERS/REVIEW We added the role Key Reporting Analyst to perform checks and peer reviews. Acts a guard at the gate This brought our deployment time back from 2 weeks to 2-3 days SPLIT THE PROCESS We now have 2 similar processes Dependency and Quick This saves deployment time as well Majority is deployed in 1 day INCREASED SERVICE MANAGEMENT TEAM We have increased the service management team from 1 to 3-4 This allows us to improve at any moment in every way 03

Performance tuning 04 Challenge: Quality of dashboard solutions & data had to be improved. Knowledge of reporters and business analysts had to level up and hundreds of legacy had to phase out. It took too long to get the newest data, the data was not right and business was annoyed…. A LOT WHAT DID WE DO?

Slide 12

Slide 12 text

Performance tuning Teach about best practices How to script in Qlik How to data model How does Qlik work “under the hood” Explain why things the way they work KNOWLEDGE SHARING TOOLS AND CHECKLISTS Use QSDA and monitoring apps to set a base line Set governance, guidelines and rules Bad performing solutions will be exposed and taken care of BUDDY SYSTEM We have set up a senior – medior/junior system to guide our colleagues Key reporters review solutions before deployment Be the Nerd/geek ALWAYS ASK THE W 04

Governance and guidelines 05 We already had rules, and lists and best practices. We had Ways of Working, guidelines and flyers, papers and best efforts. But not in one place. We needed experienced people to govern all of the above, we needed colleagues to be ambassadors, we needed One Way of Working. Qlik Advisory Board Key Reporter Analysts
