Trust me, I’m a (former) professional.

Slide 4

Slide 4 text

Everything you need to know about space

Slide 5

Slide 5 text

1. Space is really big

Slide 6

Slide 6 text

2. Space is cold

Slide 7

Slide 7 text

3. Stars are hot

Slide 8

Slide 8 text

3.14 π is everything

Slide 9

Slide 9 text

Large asteroids contain more aluminum, gold and platinum then what has ever been mined on earth

Slide 10

Slide 10 text

At least 5 bodies have been found beyond Pluto that are bigger than Pluto (Why its not a planet anymore)

Slide 11

Slide 11 text

There is more water on Jupiter’s moon Europa then all the water on Earth

Slide 12

Slide 12 text

Statistically there is a habitable earth-like planet within 20 light years of Earth, now its only a question of when we find it

Slide 13

Slide 13 text

It’s estimated that there are 100 to 500 billion galaxies in the Universe, each of which has hundreds of billions of stars.

Slide 14

Slide 14 text

Hold on to your minds…

Slide 15

Slide 15 text

The big bang occurred at a specific point in time.

Slide 16

Slide 16 text

What was going on before that?

Slide 17

Slide 17 text

The universe is continuously expanding

Slide 18

Slide 18 text

What is it expanding into?

Slide 19

Slide 19 text

Given the universe has a finite amount of energy, and that the universe continues to expand, eventually the universe will no longer be able to support actions which require energy

Slide 20

Slide 20 text

Cards Against Humanity fans:
that’s the inevitable heat-death of the universe

Slide 21

Slide 21 text

Alternate theory:
The universe expands then eventually contracts into another singularity, eventually restarting with another big bang (The Big Bounce)

Slide 22

Slide 22 text

Fermi’s Paradox: tl;dr •Given the age of the universe there should be galaxy-spanning civilizations by now. •Earth should already have been colonized, or at least visited. But no convincing evidence of this exists.

Slide 23

Slide 23 text

Some reasons: •We’re the first intelligent species capable, give us a bit of time! •All intelligent life eventually “shorts out” see: Great Filter. •They do exist, but we see no evidence (e.g. bacteria vs blue whales). •Internet addiction (seriously).
