  1. At least 5 bodies have been found beyond Pluto that

are bigger than Pluto (Why its not a planet anymore)
  2. Statistically there is a habitable earth-like planet within 20 light

years of Earth, now its only a question of when we find it
  3. It’s estimated that there are 100 to 500 billion galaxies

in the Universe, each of which has hundreds of billions of stars.
  4. Given the universe has a finite amount of energy, and

that the universe continues to expand, eventually the universe will no longer be able to support actions which require energy
  5. Alternate theory:
The universe expands then eventually contracts into another

singularity, eventually restarting with another big bang (The Big Bounce)
  6. Fermi’s Paradox: tl;dr •Given the age of the universe there

should be galaxy-spanning civilizations by now. •Earth should already have been colonized, or at least visited. But no convincing evidence of this exists.
  7. Some reasons: •We’re the first intelligent species capable, give us

a bit of time! •All intelligent life eventually “shorts out” see: Great Filter. •They do exist, but we see no evidence (e.g. bacteria vs blue whales). •Internet addiction (seriously).
