episode of Bluey including a new character, original script and matching animatic to a professional working standard matched to the show. The Goal • To show employability • Build experience with storyboarding to a script • Working professionally in an existing world.
University? • A Storyboard Artist The storyboard artist creates storyboards which reflect scenes/sequences from the director’s vision of how these scenes should look. Storyboard artist use the storyboards when explaining to other crew members how the finished product of a sequence should look. The storyboards are often used to illustrate a complicated piece of action which is broken down into various shots. Where do I start? • A Storyboard intern • A Storyboard Revisionist A Storyboard Revisionist roles include working through rough drawings, thumbnails and finished panels, together with existing boards to create a clear and concise animatic. Revising storyboards in close collaboration with the Storyboard Supervisor and the Animation Director.
drawing skills • To be able to communicate a narrative well. • A good understanding of animation • Knowledge of great layout and composition techniques • Have a passion for the industry • Storyboard to an existing style

Some parents expressed how difficult it was for their children who were moving to see Bluey and Bingo get to stay in the 28-minute special episode of Bluey ‘The Sign’. So, I think this episode can help those children relate to a character struggling to move. • Why have the new kid be shy? • Bluey herself is a strong outgoing child who sometimes forgets to let others speak shown with her sister Bingo previously. Having Bluey learn that not everyone is as outgoing with someone not in the family can teach her that sometimes she needs to listen and pay attention to others as well as herself. • Why is the focus on Bluey interacting with the character? • It is a great way to show Bluey learning about different personalities and how to interact with people who are different while also showing Ruben someone nervous to move make friends with a neighbour helping him settle when he moves house.
existing I had to be careful which house to move Ruben's family into, as there is a lot of characters in the show which are Bluey's Neighbour's already.
the show of Bluey, a lot of the characters are named after dogs from people who work on the show. My dog is called Ruby so with the new character being a boy, I adapted this to Ruben. • Why is Ruben a French Bull Dog? When picking a dog breed, I researched about the personalities of dogs and with Ruben being shy I picked a small quiet dog that hasn't appeared much within in the show which was, a French bulldog.
Ruben I used The Russel’s Family character sheet as a guide. • I broke down the style of multiple characters in Bluey and used this to design my character. • Tested multiple colour patterns similar to which are in the show. • Researched character expression with Bluey
the animatic look like what they create for the show? I found a storyboard artist who works on Bluey called Sarah Rakemann and used her work as a reference. • How long is the animatic? The animatic is 6 minutes 27 seconds. Bluey episodes are around 7 minutes including the opening (which is 25 seconds) and the credits (which vary) so, my animatic is the length of a Bluey episode.
a pitch for a new episode of the Children’s TV series ‘Bluey’. What it needs to involve: • A New character – to show I can draw to match the style of Bluey and create a character that will fit into an existing world. • A Script – This is so I can create storyboards from a script. • Storyboards – A storyboard that matches the standard of official Bluey panels. • Existing environments – To prove I can work with predesigned backgrounds and environments.
for a new episode of ‘Bluey’. This pitch included: • A New character – Drawn in the style of the show and fits into the existing world. • A Script – I was able to work from this for the storyboards. • Storyboards – A storyboard that matches the standard of official Bluey panels, even when placed next to the professional panels. • Existing environments – I worked in and around an existing world.
Due to issues outside of university I had issues with time I could focus onto this project. If I did this project again I would set more time aside. • Better script – I am not a writer. When completing this project I worked from a professional script from Alton towers however I would want to develop the script to match the characters even more. • Storyboards – More work on the boards after the animatic as the camera movements are noted differently between mine and the actual.
