  1. Listening to student feedback is valuable to the school and

the teachers … 2  Measures of Effective Teaching Project by the B&M Gates Foundation reports that student perception surveys strongly indicate the quality of teaching and predict student achievement gains1  OECD TALIS teacher survey2 shows that teachers who receive feedback have materially higher job satisfaction  Grade related metrics don’t capture all learning goals and can actually mislead (e.g. show good results for shallow rather than deep learning) 1 http://www.metproject.org/downloads/MET_Ensuring_Fair_and_Reliable_Measures_Practitioner_Brief.pdf 2 OECD (2014), TALIS 2013 Results: An International Perspective on Teaching and Learning, OECD Publishing, pp 119-148
  2. … yet currently student feedback in schools is rarely collected

and poorly analysed 3  In primary and secondary education student feedback is very rarely collected, especially in Europe  Where feedback is collected, it is largely done once-off by individually developed labour-intensive methods with limited analysis  In the surveys, question design and analysis does not sufficiently weed out the student biases, often leading to a popularity contest In the corporate world we get frequent and instant feedback while in education a teacher can teach for 20 years without knowing where to improve
  3. Student feedback is important to all stakeholders within a school

or university 4  Helps understand key strengths and areas for development  Motivates to work on self-improvement Teachers School management Students  Gives deep insight into the performance of the teachers and enables best practice sharing  Informs HR and training & development policies  Empowers to actively participate in improving their education
  4. Smartschool is a web-based platform that allows schools to collect

and analyse feedback from their students to improve teaching quality 6 ▪ The survey questions are designed based on scientific research and in collaboration with the regulator ▪ The school has a simple administration interface where it inputs the student details Phase 1: Survey Design ▪ Students log in to provide feedback on all their teachers twice a year ▪ The survey is fun, beautiful and intuitive, achieved with gamification elements ▪ Deep analytics draws out insights from the student responses ▪ Reports and dashboards are provided to the teacher and school management Phase 2: Student Surveying Phase 3: Analysis and Reporting
  5. Smartschool has a winning set of features not offered by

our competitors 7  Simple administration interface to input student data (and in the future link to school management information systems)  Beautiful gamified student survey pages to motivate students to fill out the surveys with enthusiasm  Sophisticated analytics and smart reporting to strip out biases (e.g. gender, age) from the results and give fair and actionable feedback to the teachers 1 2 3 NOTE: See the final slide for a list of the current solutions available on the market
  6. The market is exciting 8  In the US there

are 100k public schools, covering 50m students. The EU has 70m students, thus indicating that the total number of schools in our target markets is 250-300k schools.  If we assume that 50% of schools will use commercial feedback solutions priced at 500 EUR p.a. (low-end of the price range for student feedback solutions), the school market would conservatively be 75m EUR p.a. Business model  Due to the fragmentation of the market we will sell to municipalities, governments and other supra-school organisations  We will enjoy the first mover advantage in Europe and on success push into the US and later Asia
  7. The long term plan is built around three market horizons
