Sphinx: I must say,
Sphinx: it’s been quite some time since a brave warrior crossed mypath...
Sphinx: and I am so hungry.
Sphinx: Do you really think that’ll help?
Sphinx: Make one move with it
Sphinx: and you won’t live long enough to regret it.
Bard: I’m not here to fight you.
Bard: I just want to reach the city.
Sphinx: As did the many others who came here,
Sphinx: but I’m afraid the only way you can leave is if you best me ina little challenge.
Sphinx: It will only require the use of your mind.
Bard: What if I refuse to do this?
Sphinx: You can always turn back.
Sphinx: Others have before and I never stopped them.
Sphinx: It’s just a shame that if you do, you won’t see much back thatway for quite some time.
Bard: What is this challenge?
Sphinx: It’s quite simple.
Sphinx: I’ll ask you a question - a little puzzle - and you will in turngive me one answer.
Sphinx: If your answer is correct, you may continue.
Sphinx: I’m sure you can work out what happens if you fail.
Bard: Very well.
Sphinx: What has ears that cannot hear, a mouth that never speaks;
Sphinx: those who stare risk being ensnared,
Sphinx: yet it never harms nor deceives?
Sphinx: Take as long as you need.
Sphinx: Did I mention…
Sphinx: No one has ever successfully answered it before.
