  1. Quotes & Defining Words Timing and frequency of the reminders

are most commonly mentioned “When I star an email, it doesn't necessarily mean that I want to deal with it the next day.” "For one, I don't normally have a fixed time of day where I deal with my email, so having the reminders at a particular time wasn't that useful for me" "In my personal email some starred messages don't need to be addressed right away so the daily calendar events weren't super useful - would be nice to have the option to set one up per week or something like that" "some of the emails didn't require action today but at some point in the future" Reeta Banerjee | Jonathan (Jasper) Sherman-Presser | Borui Wang | Designing Calm | 2013
  2. Actions & Behaviors Only 4 out of 10 people actually

looked at the emails at the time they set a reminder; 6 of 10 either ignored the calendar event or snoozed it. Of the people whose stress level was reduced, 2 of 3 actually followed up on emails at the specified time, and 2 of 3 received pop-up calendar notifications of the scheduled reminder. Of the people whose stress level was unchanged, starring emails was used in equal parts to save things for reference and to mark as a to-do or requiring follow-up (suggesting that this system may have interfered with a organizational technique they'd already developed). Few people changed the number of emails they starred each day. Reeta Banerjee | Jonathan (Jasper) Sherman-Presser | Borui Wang | Designing Calm | 2013
  3. Thoughts & Beliefs "I don't have to think about stuff

as much, don't have as much in my working memory, when I know its stored in star." “I like that it blocks off time for me to deal with starred emails.” “The stored stars are a perfect to do list, that removes messages from eternally being marked unread.” Good for work emails, not as useful for personal emails which don’t require as many action items. Many people think that a system like this would be more useful if you had more control over when a reminder would be set for (time of day, times per week, etc.). 4. Feelings & Emotions “It reminds me to clean up my

starred emails daily and I feel less stress when I have less items starred in my mailbox.” "It felt somewhat reassuring to feel like if I did star an email, there was a service looking out for me, but I never really went back to my calendar to look for emails that I had to deal with..." “It felt nice to *feel* like I was taking some action on an email other than simply skimming it and setting it back to unread.” Everyone in the test group answered Yes to “Was it stressful to open an email and know you had to come back to it later?” 7 out of 10 people felt the same level of stress after using the system; 3 out of 10 people felt a lower level of stress.
