A Chocoyo parakeet teaches an ancient woman a valuable lesson. Inspired by my Nicaraguan ancestry and Acahualinca’s footprints.

13. Sibo: Maybe next time she’ll let us in
14. Xolo: I doubt it
21. Lala: Why do you close off the island…
22. Everytime someone gets near it?
23. Acahualinca: Because, what’s the point?
24. Acahualinca: Because, what’s the point?
25. Whenever new people come in, they never stay
29. First after my baby brother passed away
30. I kept playing these memories in my head
31. And even when others tried to comfort me
34. Or as new faces came in
35. I’d always end up alone, thinking if it was worth it
36. Lala: But don’t you think
37. That closing off completely might prevent something that can last?
38. Acahualinca: Do you not understand me!
39. All these temporary people and moments…
47. Acahualinca: I’m tired… I’m tired of temporary
48. I just want things to last
49. Lala: You’re seeing too far ahead
50. When really, even this moment is temporary
51. It’s only when you’re present by looking at where you stand
52. that you can understand that all of these experiences
53. Will inevitably become a memory in your journey.
55. People will leave footprints in your life
56. And you’ll never really know who stays or leaves…but you can’t close off
