and rapidly developing industries in the world. • The Indian telecom sector has registered a phenomenal growth during the last decade and has emerged as a fastest growing sector of the economy. India is currently the 2nd largest telecommunications market and has the 3rd highest number of internet users in the world. • According to information available in the annual report of 2016-2017 of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI), India’s telephone subscriber base has expanded at a CAGR of 19.22 percent, and has reached 1194.58 million over the period of 2007-2017. • In 2019, India surpassed the US to become the second largest market in terms of number of app downloads. • The deregulation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms have made the sector one of the fastest growing and the top five employment opportunity generator in the country.
  2. ROLE OF DATA ANALYTICS IN TELECOM INDUSTRY • Because a

telecom company has to keep up with new breakthroughs in technology, stay ahead in one of the world’s most competitive industries, and adhere to a slew of regulations, the role of data analytics in telecom is to provide companies with the easiest way to uncover insights from all their data. • Using a telecom data analytics solution that will help a company gain better insights will generate more profits. Such a system will also enable the company to stay one step ahead of its competitors and better anticipate its customer needs. • The role of data analytics in telecom is to give company a unified view of their data across departmental lines. When data streams in from multiple data sources all through the company , the company can take advantage of all its teams suggestions to come up with the best solution for every challenge. • With data pouring in through multiple sources and from all departments, a telecom service provider can use all of the talents of its employees to address issues, find innovative new workflows, and keep its customers happy. With the Necto Telecom data analytics system, employees will see the data displayed in stunning infographics in an easy-to-understand format. They will be able to add their own notes to the data to discover even more insights into how the company is performing.
  3. BIG DATA APPLICATIONS IN TELECOM INDUSTRY There are three top

applications of Big Data in Telecom Industry 1. Network Optimization: Telecom companies through Big Data Analytics are observing and governing their network capacities and this will further facilitate them in taking better decisions for the proliferation of their network data platforms. Telcos via predictive analysis are seeking to fabricate more efficient data network models. By analyzing the real-time network traffic in highly congested areas the network expansion decision can be made straightforwardly. This will aid in optimizing the overall expansion cost of the network. 2. Customer experience: A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all. Using dashboards customized offers can be provided to the customers based on their data usage patterns. With the digitized customer support systems, Big data has been at the center of its development. 3. Fraud detection: The most common fraudulent activities in the telecom industry include illegal access, hacking, fake profiles etc. Through Big Data Analytics detection of these activities is possible.
  4. CASE STUDY 1: RELIANCE JIO 1. Earlier 1 GB data

,people used to use for one month and with time people started using 1 GB data only for 1 day with price affordable for the customers to use and all this transformation is possible with the help of Big Data. 2. With the help of Big Data in Telecom Industry Jio acquired 130 million users within one year of its launch. Reliance Jio is the second largest network operator in India and the fifth- largest in the world and the only company in India which is 5G ready. 3. While all the other telecom companies underestimated the power of data, Jio used it to their full advantage and as a consequence, the other telecom companies faced huge losses in their market cap and resulted in the merger of two of the biggest telecom companies in the country- Vodafone and Idea.
  5. CASE STUDY 2: VODAFONE AND ARGYLE DATA ON USING BIG

DATA TO COMBAT FRAUD 1. With the prevalence of smart devices and the growing use of IP networks , communications fraud is getting worse. But with the help of big data we can prevent this kind of fraudulent activity. 2. Example the case of what Argyle Data did for Vodafone. 3. Vodafone was suffering from substantial revenue loss and fraudulent activity was costing them to loose their reputation by negatively impacting Vodafone’s brand perception and net promoter scores. 4. But , in partnering with Argyle Data, Vodafone hoped for change. 5. Argyle Data streamed Vodafone’s traffic data and searched for abnormalities, problems, and inconsistencies using adversarial machine learning, or machine learning designed to catch criminals.
  6. CONCLUSION With the use of smart-phones and other connected devices,

the telecom industry has been flooded with huge chunks of data. Telecom companies need to store, analyze and gain insights from this huge amount of data generated through various networks. Big Data Analytics is the guiding light for them. It has the power to allow telecom companies to earn more customers and thus generating higher revenues. The Telecom industry is on the brink of a paradigm shift. Smartphones have become a basic necessity these days. People can connect with each other located anywhere in the world, eradicating the distance barrier. Big Data Analytics will facilitate telecom industries to thrive in this ever-advancing digital world. The advantages of using big data in telecom are countless. From improving customer experiences to offering clear insights into business trends, the implementation of big data analytics can enhance your business’s overall proficiency and effectiveness.
