Allow me to vent! So my bad habits have finally caught up to me and I got acid reflux . Never had a chronic problem before until now. It all started because I was eating buttered popcorn (and sometimes other snacks) in bed almost every night while laying down. Smart, right? Then one night the nausea set in, and then it kept happening at night until finally it was happening during the day and all day. Saw a GI specialist who put me on Dexilant for about 8 weeks. Symptoms disappeared so she reduced me to Zantac (ranitidine). My cocky self figured I was cured so I continued a normal diet (low carb high fat) despite her telling me to follow a better diet. Nearly a week in on Zantac I had a large donut with my usual black coffee and I've been messed up ever since (this was about 3 weeks ago). Symptoms range from nausea, lump in throat or esophagus, lots of burping, feeling full, loss of appetite, etc. Depends on the moment or day on what I'm feeling. Doc wants me to stay on Zantac for a few more weeks while staying on diet. Feeling a bit helpless and like I've screwed myself for life. After reading here, now I'm scared to go back on PPIs. I think I'm doing fairly well with my diet but I still cheat here or there, like hummus or cake for mother's day. I just can't get past why my stomach is so sensitive right now. I use to brag I could eat just about anything, and now I may just be reaping what I sowed. Any insight or advice appreciated. Thanks for reading. ✌
