Responding to human need with practical care has been the guiding purpose of Convoy of Hope since its founding in 1994. As a faith-based humanitarian organization, it supports individuals and families affected by hunger, poverty, and crisis. Its programs are carried out through disaster response, children’s feeding initiatives, community outreach, and partnerships with churches, businesses, civic organizations, and government agencies.
When emergencies occur, the organization mobilizes quickly to provide essential relief. This includes distributing food, clean drinking water, hygiene items, and other basic supplies to those impacted by natural or humanitarian disasters. These efforts focus on meeting immediate needs while restoring a sense of stability during difficult times. When possible, support continues after the emergency phase to assist with recovery and rebuilding.
Food insecurity remains a central concern of its work. Children’s feeding programs provide consistent meals to students in vulnerable communities, helping address hunger while supporting education. Alongside these efforts, agricultural initiatives offer training in sustainable farming practices. Participants learn practical methods to improve food production, manage resources responsibly, and increase household income, helping reduce long-term reliance on aid.
The organization also prioritizes empowering women and girls. Through its Women’s Empowerment program, women receive support as they start small businesses and provide for their families. Training includes nutrition, health, hygiene, literacy, cooking, agriculture, and early childhood development, with special attention given to expectant mothers. The Girls’ Empowerment program complements this work by teaching girls about self-esteem, positive decision-making, nutrition, and physical and emotional health, helping them prepare for the future.
Operations are sustained through donated goods, financial contributions, and volunteer service. This model allows resources to be managed carefully while reaching communities across diverse regions with consistency and accountability.
Today, Convoy of Hope feeds more than 639,000 children worldwide every school day. It has supported over 252,000 women and girls and provided agricultural training to more than 140,000 individuals. Since 1994, the organization has responded to more than 850 disasters in the United States and internationally.
Founded by Hal Donaldson, the organization grew out of his childhood experience of receiving help after his father died in a car accident. With a small group of supporters, early outreach efforts known as Care Days marked the beginning of what has become a global effort. Convoy of Hope now serves communities in more than 130 countries, reaching over 350 million people through steady and compassionate service.
