The teeth are among the most important part of the human's body. Such is due to the fact that they are the ones responsible for breaking down food into small components. Additionally, they also make people look better and feel more confident. In reality, every tooth is strong enough to last for a lifetime. However, there are certain situations like having dental health cavities wherein a tooth will be destroyed or damaged. With such in regard, the damaged tooth needs to be removed by a dentist. Such will prevent the occurrence of infections and other complications that may affect the health of a person. The sad thing is that once a permanent or adult tooth is removed, it will never grow back again. Thus, people will no longer have a complete set of teeth.
The good thing nowadays is that there are already a lot of options in order to replace the missing tooth or teeth. One of the best options that modern dentists recommend is the use of dental implants. It is a dental replacement therapy wherein the artificial tooth is surgically and securely placed in the upper or lower jaw. The good thing about this procedure is that it can be done to individuals of all ages. However, there are certain conditions wherein an individual may not be suited to have one. Such will be determined by a qualified dentist. Additionally, the tooth implant, unlike dentures, looks and feels like a natural tooth. Likewise, it is also made from materials that are compatible with the human body. Likewise, there is no tendency for the implant to be removed when the person is chewing or speaking. The surrounding teeth, unlike for dental bridges, are also not touched or treated in any way. Thus, their integrity and strength are maintained.
A dentist can determine whether a patient or individual is qualified to have a dental implant by doing certain tests like x-ray. He or she can also know more about the patient by looking into the dental and medical history of the patient. If the patient is qualified, he or she will be undergoing a three-part procedure or process. The first step involves the placement of the dental implant wherein a special screw is inserted into the implant. Such will ensure that no debris and/or gum tissue will enter the implant. When the gums and implants are already secured, the dentist will put a covering to allow the implant to fuse with the jaw bone. At this point, the patient may experience swelling, tenderness, discomfort, and/or pain. Thus, the dentist will prescribe certain medications. The patient will also be advised to have a soft diet plan in order to enhance the healing process.
After a few months or so, the second step of the process will be done. Such involves the removal of the covering that has been placed by the dentist. At this stage, the dentist will also attach an extension which will also be allowed to heal. The implant and extension will then serve as the new tooth foundation. A dental crown or a customized artificial tooth is then placed during the final step. Thus, the procedure is not a dental implants one day procedure.
