Dr. Todd Young

Dr. Todd Kevin Young is a dedicated physician from Springdale, Newfoundland, whose career reflects a deep commitment to rural health. Raised in a small town of only a few thousand residents, he developed a strong sense of responsibility toward his community. After many years serving patients across the province, he continues to focus on improving access to care and advancing innovative approaches to rural medicine.

Todd began his healthcare journey after high school by training as a registered nurse, completing his diploma in 1991. His early roles took him to northern Indigenous communities as an outpost nurse, where he gained valuable clinical knowledge and a greater awareness of patient needs. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Nurse Practitioner, setting the stage for further studies in medicine and leadership.

His growing interest in medical practice led him to McMaster University, where he earned his medical degree in 2004 and completed a rural family medicine residency in 2006. These experiences strengthened his ability to work in underserved regions. Over time, he continued to expand his expertise by earning an Executive MBA in Occupational Health and Safety and pursuing additional specialized training, including dermatology studies through Cardiff University.

Returning to Newfoundland and Labrador, Dr. Young built a career that balanced clinical work and health system leadership. He practiced as a rural family and emergency physician and served as physician lead at the Green Bay Health Center, overseeing care for patients in his hometown. He also worked as Medical Director at Valley Vista Seniors Home and fulfilled responsibilities as a Medical Examiner, contributing to high standards of healthcare delivery.

In 2016, Dr. Young founded the Main Street Medical Clinic, introducing a blended model of in-person and virtual care that increased access for rural residents. He also established Medicuro Virtual Health Inc., which helped patients receive timely medical support without long travel distances. He later created the province's first rapid-access addictions program, expanding services through satellite sites to provide timely support to individuals and families in need.

Dr. Todd Young has also contributed to medical education through teaching roles at Memorial University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. His work has earned him multiple honors, including fellowships in family and rural medicine, recognition for workplace safety initiatives, and a nomination for a Human Rights Award. He remains active in his community through charitable efforts and ongoing support for local programs.
