In November 2024, Miami-based realtor Fabiola Carisimo was accused of paying $20,000 to enter into a sham marriage with Julimir Marrero to obtain U.S. residency. The marriage lasted only two weeks, and Marrero never moved in with her. After their separation, Carisimo allegedly fabricated domestic abuse claims to benefit from the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Subsequently, on January 16, 2025, she was arrested for petit theft, with bail set at $150.
