Grief and Other Things

Grief comes with a lot of feelings, sometimes the strongest being regret. For a young girl, it's easy to get caught up in that guilt. Though, sometimes moving forward means looking backwards.

16. “Down here?”
17. *GASP*
18. Dog: Are you okay?
19. “You can talk?!”
20. Dog: I always could but only now can you understand–
21. –me!
23. *whoosh*
27. “Are you real…?”
28. Dog: Well, we’re talking, and you’re holding me…
29. And we can feel and hear each other… so I’d say yes.
30. *sniff*
31. “S-sorry [sniffle] I just… really miss you and I…”
32. “Haven’t really accepted that…”
35. “Don’t take it personally.”
36. “I’d rather just, not think about it…”
37. Dog: You’ll have to eventually. Are you ready for that?
38. “Not…really.”
39. Dog: Well, there’s no right way to do it either.
40. I just worry…you know me.
41. Let’s take a walk. I want to show you something.
42. “You hate walks. But, okay.”
45. *bell clink*
46. “Where are we…?
47. “Is this…how did you… bring me here?”
48. *Camera turns*
49. “Look how small you were! Oh my god!” *faint squealing from girls*
50. “You do know mom practically planted you right?”
51. “She had all the paperwork done, weeks before we came.”
52. Dog: You didn't know that yet, and still…you picked me.
53. “Yeah…”
54. *Starts sobbing*
55. “I miss you so much–I wish I could go back…”
56. Dog: Hold on! Don’t think I didn’t know how much you loved me.
57. You always will and there’s a lot of feelings that come with that. And while you need to feel these things–
58. Don’t let guilt or regret consume you!
59. There’s no room for that in love.
60. We spent so much time together [laughs] maybe too much but…
61. I felt the love of my family everyday.
62. And I couldn't have asked for anyone else.
63. I know it’s hard not to think about the things you could have done.
65. But I promise you did everything right.
67. *Deep breath*
68. “Mmm”
69. “I don’t know how you comfort me so easily.”
70. Dog: I’ve had lots of practice.

72. Mom: Honey?
73. Are you alright?
74. “huh..?”
75. *small gasp* I–
76. “...yeah. I’m doing better.”
77. Mom: Well dinner is served!
78. “Okay! I’ll be right there!”
