• I hold a bachelor’s degree in Physics. • Some of the relevant modules I took during my undergraduate program includes: waves and optics, mathematical and statistical methods, electric circuits and network analytics, electricity and magnetism, solid state physics, , electromagnetism, digital electronics, digital and signal processing, computer programming with C and Python, etc. • Since graduating, I have spent the past few years working as a physics teaching assistant, and subsequently as an energy analyst at an electricity distribution company
changeover switch for 3-phase power supply Electricity Challenges in Nigeria: 1. Frequent power failures and load shedding. 2. Unavailability of all three phases or imbalances in phase supply (under-voltage or over-voltage). Impact on Society: 1. Driven populace to seek alternatives for more reliable and available power supply. 2. Increased adoption of power-generating sets, solar panels, and inverters by individuals, organizations, and investors. Diverse Power Supply Channels: Resulted in a rise in the number of power supply channels. Critical Need for Intelligent Solutions: The necessity for careful and smooth selection of a single channel. Importance of an intelligent circuit to handle power supply fluctuations seamlessly. Addressing the Challenge: Designing an automatic phase selector and changeover switch.Utilizing microcontroller technology for efficient, quick, and blackout-free phase selection.
switch is carried out in five different units as shown in the block diagram below. The units are as follows: • Three phase voltage sensing unit. • Processing unit. • LCD display unit. • Switching unit. • Power module
circuit consist of three transformers T1, T2 and T3 which are connected to each phase from the public utility supply. • • The full wave bridge rectifier circuit is used to convert the 12V ac stepped down voltage to 12V dc pulsating voltage. • • The stepped down 4V dc voltage is feed into the ATMEGA328p PU Microcontroller Unit for onward comparison and processing. • The programmed logic resident in the ROM of the Micro controller unit does all the processing of the dc voltage and passes the signal for the phase with the healthiest available phase (most stable, safe and available). • • The processed signal is sent to the respective pin which actuates/trigger the switching circuit interfaced with it to feed the load without any notice of power outage.
