  1. The Servant King John 13:1-17 Big Idea : Jesus shows

his great love for his disciples by washing their feet. He did this to help them understand how his death would cleanse them. Aim : To teach that we should let Jesus serve us by his death and that we should also serve one another.
  2. Recap last weeks lesson •What did Peter learn about what

it means for Jesus to be King? • What did he get right? • What did he get wrong?

  4. John 13: 1-17 1.On the evening of the day the

Passover lamb had to be sacrificed, Jesus and His disciples made their way to the upper room that had been prepared for them. Jesus knew it was time for Him to leave this world and go to His father in heaven. 2.The meal was in progress and the devil had already prompted Judas to betray Jesus. 3.Jesus got up, took off His outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 4.Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet. 5.He dried them with the towel wrapped around Him. 6.When it came to Simon Peter’s turn, he asked, ‘Lord are you going to wash my feet?’
  5. 7.‘You don’t realise what I am doing,’ Jesus replied, ‘but

later you will understand.’ 8.‘No,’ Peter protested, ‘you will never wash my feet.’ 9.Jesus replied, ‘Unless I wash you, you can have no part with me.’ 10.‘Then, Lord,’ Simon Peter replied, ‘not just my feet but my hands and head also.’ 11.When Jesus had finished washing their feet, He put on His outer garment and returned to the table. 12.‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’ Jesus asked. ‘I have set you an example that you should do the same. No servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.’
  6. John 13:1-5 •Who washed the dirty feet that evening during

the Passover meal? • Who should have offered to wash the feet? • What can we learn from Jesus’ example? • What are some ways you could be a servant at home?
  7. John 13:6-11 • What did Peter say to Jesus when

it was his turn to get his feet washed? • Why didn’t Peter want Jesus to wash his feet • What did Jesus’ washing of the disciples feet point to? • Can you think of any sins that you need Jesus to wash away?
  8. • Boys and girls, what lesson did Jesus want to

teach the disciples by washing their feet? •Can you think of jobs around the house that you don’t like to do? • Think about how you have seen a family member serve others and thank them for doing so
  9. Dear Lord Jesus Thank you that you were willing to

become a servant and die on the cross for our sins. Please would you forgive us and wash away our sins. Please would you help us to live like a servant instead of thinking about ourselves. Please would you through the Holy Spirit living in us, help us to serve others this week and to be a servant like Jesus, delighting to do God’s will. Amen
