Seagull Surprise

A mother-daughter talk at sunrise.

1. SFX: seagulls calls, ocean waves
8. SFX: waves crashing on shore
9. VFX: camera zooms in
14. ELISE [OS]: Yeah, I don't know. Their coffee's just like-
15. ELISE: so sugary and always has way too much flavoring, to the point where it's just like blegh, y'know?
16. ELISE: Anyways, that's why I don't go to the drive-thru on 72nd anymore.
18. ELISE (sighs): So, do you ever feel like you're not doing what you're supposed to?
19. MOM [calmly]: What do you mean?
21. ELISE: Like... that there's something more we should be doing in life?
22. ELISE: I just feel like I had so many ideas of what I wanted to do growing up-
23. ELISE: and now that I've grown up, I still don't know which one is the right path.
24. ELISE [OS]: Everything just seems... a lot more complicated now.
25. ELISE [OS]: I know that, I'm being hard on myself but,
26. ELISE [OS]: I do it because I feel like it's needed.
27. ELISE [OS]: Like, if I don't push myself, who will? Y'know?
28. ELISE: But it's exhausting. Constantly feeling like I have so much to prove.
29. ELISE: Will I ever be enough, for me?
30. ELISE: Sorry, I'm just rambling. It doesn't really matter—
31. MOM [interrupting]: No, it does matter. You matter.
32. MOM: Honey, you put too much pressure on yourself.
33. MOM: You work so hard and yet you say you have so much to prove.
34. MOM: But who is it that you need to prove yourself too?
35. MOM: You're so young and you have so much ahead of you.
36. MOM: Please don't get carried away with overthinking the future.
37. ELISE: I know but, it feels like I don't have enough time.
38. ELISE: Everyone else is already so far ahead and, well, where does that leave me?
39. MOM: On your own journey.
40. MOM: Everyone has their own path to take.
41. MOM [OS]: Life isn't a race.
42. MOM [OS]: If it was, it would be a very boring one..
43. Because everyone would have the same place to go,
44. And do the same things to get there.
45. MOM [OS]: We all have wonderful and unique destinations.
46. MOM [OS]: We don't know exactly how our lives will map out,
47. MOM: But we get to play a part in taking the small steps to get there.
48. MOM: Don't worry. Everything's going to turn out alright. I promise—
49. SFX: chomp
50. SFX: empty wind blowing by
51. SFX: empty wind blowing by
54. SFX: seagull screeches
55. MOM [shrieking]: EEEEAHHH!!!!
56. ELISE [laughing]: Does everything look alright to you now?!
57. MOM [yelling]: NO! This is not what I meant! AHHHH!!
