Features of Java • Kiran N Patil Assistant Professor Electronics
and Computer Department Sharad Institute of Technology College of Engineering Yadrav
About Java • • • • Java is a high-level,
object-oriented programming language. Developed by James gosling at Sun Microsystems. Known for portability, security, robustness, and platform independence. • Following are features of Java
1. Simple • Easy-to-understand syntax • Removes complex features such
as pointers • Automatic memory management simplifies programming
2. Object-Oriented • Based on classes and objects • Supports
inheritance and polymorphism • Provides encapsulation and abstraction
3. Platform Independent • Follows “Write Once, Run Anywhere” (WORA)
• Java source code is compiled into bytecode • Bytecode runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
4. Secure • Provides bytecode verification • Runtime security checks
improve application safety • No direct pointer arithmetic
5. Robust • Strong type checking • Exception handling •
Automatic garbage collection • Helps reduce memory-related errors
6. Portable • Java bytecode can run on different platforms
• A compatible JVM is required • Platform-specific dependencies are minimized
7. Multithreaded • Supports multiple threads • Allows tasks to
execute concurrently • Useful for responsive and interactive applications
8. High Performance • Uses Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation • Frequently
executed bytecode can be compiled into native machine code • Improves execution speed
9. Distributed • Provides networking libraries and APIs • Supports
communication between systems • Useful for distributed and network-based applications
10. Dynamic • Can load classes and libraries during runtime
• Supports dynamic linking • Provides flexibility during program execution
Summary • Simple • Object-Oriented • Platform Independent • Secure
• Robust • Portable • Multithreaded • High Performance • Distributed • Dynamic
