For Marissa Haugh, the path toward helping others has taken many forms. Over time, she has worked in education, child life services, and most recently in fitness and nutrition, but the central focus has always remained the same: improving the lives of those she serves. Her professional and personal experiences reflect a steady commitment to growth, health, and well-being.
Her early years shaped her interest in child development. Born in Athens, Greece, she moved with her family to New England, where she discovered her passion for children’s health and learning. After high school, she decided to study at the University of Rhode Island, earning a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. The program allowed her to examine how individuals and families grow and adapt over time, forming the base for her career. She later added to her academic background with a Certificate in Fine Arts and Foundation from Parsons’ School of Design in 2001, highlighting her creative side. Two years later, she completed a Master of Science in Child Life at Bank Street College in 2003, preparing her to support children and families facing medical and emotional challenges.
Marissa’s professional journey began during her college years. She served as a day care leader, helping young children grow. She then became a caseworker for Talbot Perkins Children’s Services in Brooklyn, assisting with adoption and foster care services. At the same time, she also took on the role of Lead Camp Counselor at Epiphany Nursery School Camp, where she designed art and cooking projects while managing group activities. These experiences gave her a broad view of children’s needs inside and outside the classroom.
In 1998, Marissa became the head teacher at Trevor Day School in New York City. She oversaw classroom activities, adapted teaching techniques to meet student needs, and worked closely with families. Her experiences there prepared her to move into healthcare. At Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, she worked as a Child Life Specialist in pediatric units, providing therapeutic interventions to children who have asthma, cancer, cystic fibrosis, HIV/AIDS, and those undergoing transplants. She also supported families as they managed the difficulties of hospitalization and treatment.
Later, she joined Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey as an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist. Her responsibilities included developmental assessments and interventions for infants and toddlers up to age three. She worked directly with families to encourage cognitive and social-emotional development in children. Her long-standing membership in the Child Life Council, beginning in 2001, highlights her dedication to advancing this field.
In 2017, Marissa expanded her career into health and fitness. She earned a Certificate in Fitness and Nutrition from the Academy of Sports Medicine and established FIT, FULL AND FOCUSED, based in Oceanport, New Jersey. As a coach, she develops personalized plans considering her clients’ health conditions, eating habits, and fitness levels. She emphasizes education, helping people understand nutrition science, food preparation, and long-term lifestyle changes.
Her fitness background adds depth to her coaching. She has participated in CrossFit competitions, endurance challenges such as Tough Mudder and Spartan races, and multiple marathons. These experiences allow her to connect with her clients practically and meaningfully.
Marissa Haugh's life reflects dedication, adaptability, and service. From her earliest experiences working with children to her present-day focus on nutrition and fitness, she has continually chosen paths that enable her to guide and support others. Her journey shows how knowledge, care, and persistence can benefit individuals and families.
