Chief Miguel Iglesias, a retired NYPD Chief, served the people of New York City for over 30 years, leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, leadership, and public service. Born in Panama City, Panama, he joined the NYPD in 1991 with a passion for making a difference in his community. Throughout his career, he advanced to key positions within the department, including Chief of Internal Affairs, where his leadership was critical in improving accountability and trust within the force.

In 2001, after being promoted to Sergeant, Miguel recognized the need for higher education to continue his professional development. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from St. Joseph's College in 2005 and a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Seton Hall University in 2008. These academic achievements played an essential role in shaping his leadership abilities and equipped him to take on more significant responsibilities within the NYPD. Miguel was committed to following departmental procedures while prioritizing communication and trust between officers and the community.

Raised in Brooklyn, Miguel experienced firsthand the crime and community safety challenges. These experiences motivated him to join the NYPD, where he rose through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities. Promoted to Lieutenant in 2005, he oversaw daily operations and began implementing initiatives that improved safety in his Precinct. By 2010, he was promoted to Captain, where he was instrumental in reducing crime, particularly shootings, in the 73rd Precinct. His leadership in this role contributed to a safer environment for residents and officers alike.

In 2022, Chief Miguel Iglesias NYPD was appointed Chief of Internal Affairs, which required him to enforce high ethical standards within the department. His focus on transparency and accountability helped rebuild public trust in the NYPD. After retiring in 2025, he left a legacy of dedicated service, ethical leadership, and a deep commitment to justice. His career inspires those entering law enforcement, demonstrating the impact of integrity and hard work in building a better community.
