  1. Design context Media Format: Game • Tone: Magical, emotional, comedic

    • Genre: Fantasy, Action- adventure, comedy • Target audience: Teens – young adults Story Synopsis Two Pakistani sisters, Bailey and Samara, have opposing worldviews, which causes them to butt heads. One day, Bailey convinces Samara to give her illegal entry into a heavily fortified, forbidden section of a library. There, while studying a book of mythical legends, Bailey accidentally spills a school science experiment. A monstrous Venus flytrap rapidly forms over the book and swallows both women, plunging them through a portal into a dangerous monster universe. Stranded in a supernatural world, the sisters must put aside their bitter differences and learn to cooperate to survive. They meet Darcy, who agrees to guide them to the only exit portal home, which will permanently close after two moons. As they enter dangerous territory, Darcy gears them up with weapons that hone to their strengths. Bailey: a hover board that releases an explosive and acidic gas, Samara: a giant magical needle fit to create and heal, and Darcy with sound-based piercing bombs, slowing down enemies. Hidden motives and tensions inject intense paranoia throughout the journey, threatening to break apart this sisterhood. As the deadline approaches, the trio must confront danger, betrayal, and survival before the door to home locks forever.
  2. Art Direction statement This project visually explores the duality of

sisterhood within a fantasy, action, adventure, and comedy game, balancing cohesion and contrast to drive its magical, emotional tone. To unify three distinct characters across two worlds, a shared palette of red, green, and beige creates visual cohesion. Bailey embodies an academic tomboy; her uneven, self-cut hair, ink-splattered shirt, cargo jorts, and cracked glasses present her reckless and adventurous nature. In contrast, her sister Samara embodies traditional perfectionism, having a stiffer, rectangular silhouette, which evokes reliability and protection. While soft pinks and yellows reveal her maternal but calculated personality. Darcy introduces a chaotic, undercity punk aesthetic with triangular shapes, yet she mirrors the group by using similar colour palettes, revealing a gentle soul beneath her tougher exterior. Amplifying the fantastical gameplay, each character wields unique weapons tailored to their personal strengths. Every visual choice intentionally bridges their psychological arcs, comedic dynamics, and eventual narrative compromise.
  3. Bailey Bailey is a resilient, fiercely adventurous Pakistani woman who

rebels against traditional gender expectations to forge her own path. Driven by intense curiosity and a desire for equal treatment, she disguises herself as a boy to sneak into school. Her relentless pursuit of life’s thrills often blinds her from imminent danger. As the protagonist, Bailey’s defiance of societal norms establishes the initial stakes, while her thrill-seeking behaviour is the direct catalyst for the plot. By inadvertently pulling herself and her older sister, Samara, into a dangerous monster universe, Bailey’s personal journey shifts from fighting human expectations to escaping this strange universe with her sister. Bailey learns to be more cautious and that her femininity is not a cage but rather accepting, instead of rejecting it, it can offer its own unique freedom.
  4. Samara Samara is a beautiful, traditional Pakistani woman who equates

perfection with adhering strictly to societal gender roles. Following her mother’s passing, she embraced the responsibility of becoming the household's matriarchal figure, striving to be the ideal future wife. While she loves community and values her public image, Samara possesses a hidden, cutthroat ambition. She can be vain, selfish, and fiercely protective of her status, willingly pushing others aside to achieve her personal standards of success. As the second protagonist, her rigid adherence to tradition creates immediate domestic tension, highlighting Bailey's rebellion. When Bailey’s reckless actions drag them both into the monster universe, Samara is forced out of her controlled, image-conscious comfort zone. Her arc will force her to put aside her desire for perfection and work together with her sister to escape this supernatural world.
  5. Darcy Darcy is a soft-hearted teenage monster who earns a

living as a DJ for the undercity. Beneath her sharp exterior, she is incredibly timid, insecure, and ostracized from her society, similarly to Bailey. Darcy is driven by a fierce loyalty to her family. This loyalty forces her to step out of her shell, making her to conquer her insecurities and timidness to achieve her desperate, life-saving mission. As a supporter role and native guide, Darcy navigates the sisters through the dangerous wilderness towards an exit portal before it closes in two moons. However, she has a dark secret: she needs human blood to cure her sick cousin. She must balance saving her family while protecting the first true friends she has ever made.
  6. Visual reference boards – Story - Through its themes of

teamwork to escape an unfamiliar world - Through its magical elements and supernatural creatures - Through its darker themes, such as betrayal, death, and mystery. Additionally, it is a more technical, problem- solving gameplay - Through its magical elements, through the characters’ superpowers, level-ups, and situational weapons
  7. Ideation sketches - Bailey • Design B was chosen because

its rectangular and triangular shapes communicate a combination of adventurous/reckless and strength. • The clothing pieces, baggy clothes, and mismatched clothes perfectly show Bailey’s masculinity and lack of care for her physical appearance. • The cracked glasses for Designs D. were taken, however, as it effectively visualises her recklessness and lack of safety.
  8. Iteration sketches - Bailey • During the iteration phase, exaggerations

and slight design changes were made • Throughout exaggerations 1-3, Bailey’s hair became more voluminous to continue this pattern of messiness • The characters’ shoes, shorts, and shirt also became more defined to create a clearer silhouette. • Finally, ink smudges were added on Bailey’s shirt to illustrate her studious nature.
  9. Iteration sketches (colour) - Bailey • Design C was chosen

because it presented the most contrasting tones, making the design more visually balanced and pleasing to viewers. • Additionally, red and green colours communicate strength, and considering they are complementary colours, it gives a sense of emotional reliability. • However, the green eye colour on design A. was incorporated as it made the green cargo shorts less random in the design. (more cohesion)
  10. Iteration sketches (colour) - Bailey • Iterated the colours further,

adding more contrast. • Changing the shoes from beige to green and lightening the beige on the shirt achieved this effect
  11. Ideation sketches - Samara • Design E. was chosen as

it had the most interesting shape language in the line work. • Also shows both her value for femininity and modesty as it covers her full body whilst having some clothing pieces that show off her body figure a bit more. The floral patterns represent her femininity.
  12. Iteration sketches - Samara • During the exaggeration process, clothing

pieces were made to have more defined shapes to improve the silhouette • For instance, the hijab continuously had diagonal lines to create cohesion • Samaras’s skirt used the rule of thirds and has horizontal patterns. Having a combination of flat lines and curvy patterns created textural contrast. • Her face also progressively becomes more aligned to her personality, being cold, calculated, and at times condescending.
  13. Iteration sketches (colour) - Samara • Design B was chosen

because it complemented Bailey’s colour palette; this would make them more easily identified as related or from the same universe when put with Darcy. • Additionally, the red and yellow colours showed the duality of her character, acting polite and feminine, but inside, secretly having selfish agendas.
  14. Iteration sketches (colour) - Samara • Iterations for the colour

design consisted of increasing the contrast of the tones. • This was achieved by darkening the red in her dress, adding red in the floral patterns of her hijab, and lightening the beige.
  15. Ideation sketches - Darcy • Design B was chosen because

I felt having a goat character most fitted her role in the story, being a supporting role. • This design also aligned with the character’s job of being an undercity DJ.
  16. Iteration sketches - Samara • Throughout the iteration process, clothing

piece shapes were more defined, therefore making the character have a clearer and more identifiable silhouette. • This was achieved by increasing the size of her ears, hair buns, belt, and shoes. • Additionally, more triangular shapes were incorporated to express the character’s more emotionally unstable personality. • This was achieved by changing the buns into stars, adding sharp edges to the ear piercings, the bottom of boots, tail, bracelets, tattoo, and choker. • By incorporating these elements, it also gave her a more grunge, edgy vibe, which creates a visual contrast when putting Darcy next to Bailey and Samara. This makes it obvious that they are from two completely different worlds
  17. Iteration sketches (colour) - Darcy • Design A was chosen

due to the similar colour palettes to characters, Bailey and samara. • Additionally, other designs were too dark, so the tonal contrast was low.
