  4. “The perplexing cacophony, turmoil and splendour of this moment in

Jesus’ life is meant to be seen as something firmly anchored in the ancient-future-forever unfolding story of God’s kingdom of peace coming to earth as it is in heaven.” :: Nerha Trebor::
  5. \ Luke 19:28-44 28 And when he had said these

things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat.
  6. \ Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone

asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.”
  7. \ 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing

their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road.
  8. \ 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way

  9. \ “Blessed is the King who comes in the name

of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
  10. \ 41 And when he drew near and saw the

city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
  11. \ 43 For the days will come upon you, when

your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

  13. \ 28 He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

29 When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet…
  14. The gospel writers worked hard to give us the behind

the scenes moments of the story so that we could see past the cacophony to understand the meaning of Jesus’ thoughtful steps.
  15. \ Go into the village in front of you, where

on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” (and will send it back here. (Mk 11:4) …happened just as He had told them.
  16. As king, Jesus excercised temporal authority in His present reality.

-used foreknowledge. -ordered the steps of his disciples. -commanded resources. -excercised the power of His name. -saw his plan fulfilled. We are meant to operate under His authority today.
  17. \ 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken

by the prophet, saying, 5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and lowly, mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’” (Matt. 21:4-5 / Zech. 9:9) He exercises authority to fulfill His WORD.

by the prophet, saying, 5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’” (Matt. 21:4-5 / Zech. 9:9) His authority is exercised in humility, vulnerability and service.
  19. We find peace in perplexity… when we trust in and

model His humility, vulnerability and heart to serve.
  20. Zechariah 9:11 “As for you, because of the blood of

my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.” His authority is exercised to fulfill the PROMISE of salvation through His blood.
  21. \ 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing

their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. In His authority He accepts our worship, sacrifice and the laying down of our dignity and status.
  22. \ 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way

  23. \ 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way

down the Mount of Olives— the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying… His WONDERFUL works inspired praise… but… they didn’t inspire commitment.
  24. \ 38 …saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in

the name of the Lord!…” (Luke 19:29/Psalm 118:25)
  25. \ 26 “Blessed is the King who comes in the

name of the Lord!…” (Psalm 118:25)
  26. \ 26 “Blessed is the King who comes in the

name of the Lord!…” 25 …O Lord, we pray, give us success! (Psalm 118:25)
  27. \ “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign(success),

but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. (Luke 11:29)
  28. \ 26 “Blessed is the King who comes in the

name of the Lord!…” 25 …O Lord, we pray, give us success! 27 …bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar! (Psalm 118:25)
  29. \ 27 …bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to

the horns of the altar! (Ps. 118:27)
  30. \ 27 …bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to

the horns of the altar! (Ps. 118:27) CRUCIFY HIM!!! He used His authority to offer them PARDON when they thought they needed power.
  31. \ 27 …bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to

the horns of the altar! (Ps. 118:27) CRUCIFY HIM!!! He used His authority to offer them pardon when they thought they needed power.
  32. We find peace in perplexity… When we receive FORGIVENESS in

submission to His WILL and on His terms.
  33. \ 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd

said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” He claimed authority over nature and the cosmos.
  34. \ 41 And when he drew near and saw the

    city, he wept over it…
  35. \ 41 And when he drew near and saw the

city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
  36. We find peace in perplexity through knowing HIM in… OBEDIENCE,

SCRIPTURE, HUMILITY, VULNERABILITY, SERVICE, RELATIONSHIP, FORGIVENSS, AWE WORSHIP, WEEPING,
  37. \ Power and pomp won’t give you peace in times

of perplexity. Only personal knowledge of Jesus Christ and acceptance of His humble authority can do that.
  38. \

  39. \ 43 For the days will come upon you, when

your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not KNOW the time of your visitation.” ginṓskō ("experientially know")
