Philip Skorokhodov is an academic researcher focusing on history, political science, and international relations. Philip grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he attended Manzano Day School for his early education and later Albuquerque Academy for high school. At Albuquerque Academy, he earned recognition for his outstanding performance in subjects like history and English, receiving multiple commendations.
He attended Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania after high school and enrolled in the Honors Program. Philip earned a Bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Political Science. His undergraduate thesis explored how France approached the sensitive topic of World War II history in its education system from 1946 to 2008. During his junior year, he studied abroad in Paris as part of the Internships in Francophone Europe program, further developing his understanding of the French language, culture, and politics.
After completing his studies at Swarthmore, he continued his academic journey at the University of Chicago, where he pursued a Master of Arts in Social Sciences. His thesis analyzed the ongoing political and scholarly debates regarding the Second World War in Russia. At the University of Chicago, he expanded his knowledge in various fields, including Latin American Civilization, Soviet History, and Contemporary European History. Philip then went to Arizona State University to begin his PhD in History, focusing on wartime rationing policies in Moscow and Paris during World War II. Though he has not yet defended his dissertation, he has completed all necessary coursework and exams.
Philip's research has taken him to archives in Moscow and Paris, where he studied the effects of food rationing during the war. His dissertation compares government policies and the survival strategies of people in these two cities during the Second World War. He has also worked as a research assistant on projects related to the abolition of the death penalty in France and the translation of Russian documents for a biography of a notable historical figure.
His teaching experience spans both high school and college levels. At Arizona State University, Philip taught history courses and took on responsibilities like designing curricula, lecturing, and grading. He has also taught Russian language courses and worked with younger students. In addition to his teaching roles, he worked as an administrative assistant for the Albuquerque International Association, helping to organize events and coordinate international trips.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, and swimming. He is also intensely interested in cultural activities like concerts and visiting museums. Philip particularly enjoys spending time with his corgi, Ryzhik, who provides comfort and companionship.
