  1. FADE IN: EXT. FOREST - BAHAY KUBO - NIGHT In

the forest nestles a small Bahay Kubo. A warm glow emanates from the windows as crickets chirp around it. INT. BAHAY KUBO - NIGHT Apung Tali, a bat of old age; a gentle and caring mother figure, tucks the sleepy orphans to their shared bed. APUNG TALI Are you kids ready for tonight's bedtime story? The little bundle of orphans nod excitedly. ORPHANS Yes, Apung Tali! [speech bubble] Apung Tali reaches out to her table and retrieves a “magic book”. The children begin to settle down, snuggling closer to each other as their mother Apung Ali begins to recount a tale. [CAMERA FOCUSES ON THE THREE KIDS] The orphans snuggle together, all warm and cozy, as their mother begins her story. FADE TO BLACK: CUT TO: INT. BAHAY KUBO - MORNING The soft taps of feet travel throughout the floor of the room, followed by the sound of a yawn that belongs to a 9-year old orphan
  2. named Illia, an Aeromachus musca butterfly; the street-smart and cheerful

kid. She greets her siblings a good morning. ILLIA Maray na aga! Anong pamahawan ngunyan? (Good morning! What's for breakfast today?) Luz, a Gallicolumba Luzonica; a know-it-all that competes with Illia for leadership, and a book-smart type of kid, stares at Illia in confusion. She asks what Illia just said. LUZ Ano? Anong sinsabi mo ‘lliya? (Huh? What are you saying Illia?) Agani, an ordinary goat; the naive and supportive baby brother, stirs from the slight commotion. Having heard the strange words that came out of his sister's mouth, Agani asks groggily. AGANI Anyat kunam manang? (What did you say, sis?) This time it was Illia's turn to be confused, and so were her other siblings. They usually would understand each other despite the differences in their spoken language. As the orphans realize that they couldn’t understand each other, panic ensues in the household. They immediately rush to Apung Ali, who’s in their living room, for help. When they ran to Apung Ali, they started shouting about what’s happening, voices in different languages overlapping each other.
  3. Apung Tali just stood there looking at her kids in

mild confusion with a tilt of her head. The kids begin to realize that she couldn’t understand them either! Apung Tali, after seemingly connecting the dots together, is understandably shocked at the situation, the old bat goes to her table to retrieve the magic book. However, the book is not sitting in its usual place at her little coffee table. APUNG TALI Nokarin ya kaya miras… (Where did it go…) Keni kune man likwan… (This is where I left it…) Ali… (No…) As the panic subsides a bit, everyone gets increasingly worried. Illia thinks for a bit, and comes up with an idea to go out to the forest and look for it. She tries to tell her siblings about it. ILLIA Madya na sa kagubatan! Baka makua kita an libro duman. (Let’s go to the forest! We might find the book there.) Luz and Agni, who no longer understand her, tilt their heads in confusion. Illia tries to think of a way to communicate her idea and starts moving her body around and making faces. Luz and Agni start to realize what she is trying to say based on her body language and both start nodding at the same time still looking a little confused. EXT. FOREST - BAHAY KUBO - NOON Apung Tali is hesitant to let the children trek around on their own. After a bit of convincing, she gives in. She really would’ve wanted to join the children but she can’t. Unfortunately, she’s gotten into a pretty bad fall recently and isn’t allowed to move around too much. She decides to put her trust into the kids.
  4. APUNG TALI Lagi kayung mimingat. Ali kayu mikakawani at peka

importante pane kayung ligtas. (Always stay safe. Don’t separate and remember that the most important thing is your safety.) Luz, seeing her grandmother's worried cries, calls out. LUZ Wag kang magaalala mama! Kaya natin to [Don’t worry mama! We got this] Luz says, flapping her wings excitedly. Which seems to reassure Apung Tali. [CAMERA SHOTS TO KIDS WALKING AWAY; APUNG TALI IS WAVING GOODBYE] FADE TO BLACK: FADE IN: INT. FOREST - NOON The kids are walking in the middle of the forest, gesturing and miming words to try talking to each other about their missing book, Illia throwing in the occasional quips and jokes, much to the confusion of her siblings would understand. Nevertheless, she thought she was still quite funny. Meanwhile, Luz is trying to draw a map and mark places, looking up ever so often as to know where they are going, while Agani runs and plays with his newly acquired stick. Soon, they come across a fork in the small road.
  5. Illia says, speaking more to herself than she is to

her siblings. ILLIA Duman kita sa tuo! (Let’s go to the right!) LUZ Teka lang gumagawa pa ako ng mapa [Hold on I’m making a map] Luz says, but her sister does not understand her and proceeds forward. LUZ Sabi ko teka lang! [I said wait!] Luz says, pulling at her sister's shirt. Which causes Illia to stumble backwards. ILLIA Anong problema saimo? [What’s your problem?] The bickering continues. [CAMERA SLOWLY ZOOMS TO AGANI IN THE BACKGROUND] The older siblings did not even notice their baby brother still playing with his toy, not knowing that there was a big tree root protruding from the ground. Agani misses a step and trips over the large root, roughly scraping his hands and knees on the ground. CUT TO: AGANI [crying]
  6. Agani sees something unusual despite the tears clouding his vision.

He tries reaching for what he thinks is the missing magic book that is stuck in a tree near a small ditch. He starts leaning on the branch of a tree, but it snaps and he falls further into the ditch, hurting himself more in the process. CUT TO: The loud sudden cry instantly stops the argument between Luz and Illia, the latter looking around to find that their baby brother is not with them. LUZ Teka, anuyan? Saan si ‘gani (Wait, what’s that? Where’s Agani?) ILLIA May na dadangog akong kurahaw. Baka si Agani ini! (I hear a cry. That might be Agani!) The two sisters are running to the source of the sound and they immediately find Agani down by the ditch, they can see the cuts and wounds of their baby brother and feel guilty for not looking out for him. They fly in and start comforting Agani, being mindful of the wounds. Illia bundles him up in her arms, and they fly back up to the hole they went through. CUT TO: FOREST INT. FOREST - AFTERNOON The siblings pop out of the ditch with their baby brother in tow. The event of what happened shakens the older siblings for a little bit, and they proceed to examine Agani and check for wounds. All the
  7. while, Illia and Luz are apologizing to each other and

go home so Apung Tali can bandage up their little brother. ILLIA Patawarun mo ako, Luz. Susubukan kong magdangog saimo sa sunod. [I’m sorry, Luz. I’ll listen to what you have to say next time.] LUZ Pasensya na ‘Illiya. Pasensya na ‘Gani, ‘di ko naman inasaahan masaktan ka [I’m sorry Illia. I’m sorry Agani, I didn’t want you to get hurt] Illia and Luz share a hug, letting in Agani as well with gentle and careful arms as their baby brother cheers for them making up. [CAMERA PANS UP TO AN ORANGE SKY] TRANSITION TO: NIGHT SKY [CAMERA PANS DOWN TO FOREST AT NIGHT] INT. BAHAY KUBO - NIGHT The three siblings return to their home safely. They step inside only to see Apung Tali sitting on their couch in the living room, she is relieved to see that her kids are okay. However, that brief relief vanishes upon seeing the state of Agani, noticing the amount of scratches and wounds. APUNG TALI Nako! Nang milyari keka?! (Naku! What happened to you?!)
  8. This prompts an immediate scolding to Illia and Luz, who

can only bow their heads and nod, despite not understanding anything their grandmother is saying. FADE OUT: EXT. BAHAY KUBO - MORNING The next day, the siblings decide to go out with adult supervision this time. They walk out into the forest with their grandmother trailing behind them like a protective momma bear. Luz comes up with an idea that they should teach each other their language by pointing to the different things they see in the forest and saying what it means in their spoken language. She runs up a tree and points at it, looking back at her siblings to make sure they are looking. LUZ Puno [tree in her language] Illia, Agani, and Apung Tali tilt their heads in confusion. She repeats it again, firmer this time. LUZ PUNO! [tree in her language] Apung Tali lights up, catching on with what Luz is planning to do. APUNG TALI Keni keni.(Come come.) Apung Tali then spots a flower near her feet, she beckons her kids to the flower and points at it.
  9. APUNG TALI Sampaga (flower) It is then that Illia and

Agani catch up with what their mother and sibling were doing, and they stim in excitement, pulling Luz by the hand as they wander the forest area with wondrous energy; pointing and teaching each other words using the nature around them. ILLIA Madya Igdi! (Come here!) She points at the sun. ILLIA Adlaw! (sun) AGANI Woooaah, Adlaw! Agani spots a puddle of water and brings his siblings to it. AGANI Danom! LUZ Hahahahah- DANOM! ILLIA Danum! They share a laugh together. Illia scratches her neck in embarrassment and tries again. ILLIA Ehem… Danom!
  10. Agani and Luz cheer and clap. This newfound cycle goes

on between the kids, completely forgetting about finding the missing magic book. They become not only closer than ever, but also more comfortable with communicating to each other too. They start to teach each other basic words and phrases that they can think of by using the forest as a prompt. [CAMERA ZOOMS OUT OF SCENERY; FOCUS ON APUNG TALI] Out of the children’s view, Apung Tali stands under a tree, keeping watch of her children. A smile forms on her face. She goes to adjust her glasses, and we see a familiar object resting in her arm. [CAMERA CUTS TO APUNG TALI’S WINGS] Under Apung Tali’s wings, is a book that suspiciously looks like the magic book they’ve been looking for. Maybe… just maybe, they might not have to constantly rely on the book after all. FADE TO BLACK: END
