  1. The Lord God took the man and put him in

the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:15 (NIV)
  2. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man,

and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned. Romans 12:5 (NIV)
  3. “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil

you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. Genesis 3:17 (NIV)
  4. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your

food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:17 (NIV)
  5. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and

the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. Matthew 5:45 (NIV)
  6. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,

for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:1-4 (NIV)
  7. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has

come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
  8. For we know that if the earthly tent we live

in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 (NIV)
  9. But if Christ is in you, then even though your

body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. Romans 8:10 (NIV)
  10. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from

the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11 (NIV)
  11. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with

those who weep. Romans 12:15 (NLT)
  12. Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself.

Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. Hebrews 13:3 (NLT)
  13. Singing cheerful songs to a person with a heavy heart

is like taking someone’s coat in cold weather or pouring vinegar in a wound. Proverbs 20:25 (NLT)
  14. “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what

is offered to you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” Luke 10:8 (NIV)
  15. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and

trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5 (NLT)
  16. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the

glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 8:18-25 (NLT)
  17. And we believers also groan, even though we have the

Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) Romans 8:18-25 (NLT)
